Agreed and as I am still a PCA member have been to 2 meets - there is also the Ulrich Bez connection.
(Trying not to stall while reversing into a prominent spot takes a little concentration!)

Automobiles; headed to a monotonous future?

No more manual transmission, no more internal combustion, just battery powered marvels. What's the big deal? There are at least 75 of them plugged in over at the golf course.

I have been a car fan since junior high school. Now I'm 78. Over the interim years have had about 100 new cars, plus a bunch of used ones. Never have I had a vehicle that attracted such positive attention as my Aston Martin Vantage. Even today when its a dozen years old it gets "thumbs up" from admiring viewers.

Once in a while I ponder a V12V as its replacement. 12s are very mechanical...I love mechanical. Then I come to my senses.

Aston Forever

10 years ago I purchased my 2007 Vantage. I took a full year studying everything and the Vantage was my final decision for my forever car. I have not regretted that decision. Sure the occasional Porsche grabs your attention but as it has been said these cars have been way overteched and have way too many slots and spoilers for me. I also collect watches and in that world vintage watch values have gone through the roof. Why, because they don't make watches with that kind of character any more. Now, with the not so desirable looking new Vantage out, I would not be surprised that our values start creeping up. Whether that happens or not, I'll be keeping mine. It will be one of the timeless beauties.

Sure you can keep the car forever. But and there is always a but, parts may be an issue 25 years from now. I agree with one of the previous posts that we are headed for cars that are going to suck sooner than later. I think Volvo said by 2025 all their cars will be electric. That is the trend of the future. So your Aston may the way to go if you want to drive a real car.

Yes, parts. Fortunately, the v8v has had adequate production numbers and parts are already available from many specialty salvage yards. Also upgrades to discontinued or inferior original equipment are available (see cooling fan post). These factors mitigate the risk of ownership to a degree and bodes well for the future of the car as a "collectible" or long term driver. As for electrics, if you haven't driven a Tesla with ludicrous mode available you simply can not understand that the days of the combustion engine are past with respect to performance. It is only a matter of time before driver feel and engagement will compare favorably to the best handling piston engine cars of today. The saving grace is the connection to an unautomated era, and like the 8C, F1 v12s and other high rpm reciprocating power units, the glorious sound!

Yeah I got an i3 as a commuter car (so I'm not dailying the aston so much and running errands all the time with it) and that car is actually a ton of fun to drive in a weird sort of way. Cheap as hell too I got a used one totally loaded with 10k miles on it (practically like new, and CPO) for under 20k

i3 is a brilliant design. BMW had some of the their sharpest pens doing the drawing. Love the interior mix of materials and surfaces.

sorry to derail the thread, but is there anything I can hack on it if I don't have the rex? mine is battery only, since I have two other gas vehicles I didn't need the extra range around here
