I think it requires having the key in the ignition... assuming you've done that at it's still not working, there are 3 screws underneath the glove box that you can undo to get it opened. If you search "removing db9 glove box" on YouTube, Aston1936 has a video demonstrating how to do this. (I did it two days ago to change out my cabin filters. It's super easy.)

If you hit the button do you hear the actuator working? Its a small compartment, stuff gets stuck sometimes.

glove box actuator

I have now taken the dash apart. The glove box refused to open as the actuator was inoperative.I forced it open.I have ordered a new
actuator but removing the old one is still to do.Extremely difficult to remove 2 screws with right angle screw driver,no room .
Putting on the new one should also be fun, will advise when new part aeeives.

Can’t picture your scenario without photos, but may a flexible impact bit driver extension could help you get into a hard to reach spot?
