Note on Aston Installations CarPlay with Apple Maps
I reverted from Aston Installations CarPlay to factory GPS. Reason - the most recent update installed in my 2015 DB9 (Garmin system) when used with Apple Maps is buggy. When CarPlay is set to Automatic, it doesn’t switch from Dark to Light or Light to Dark automatically. Also, when set to Dark mode, Apple Maps is always stuck in Light mode which is bizarre. I drive a lot during night time and when Apple Maps is stuck in Light mode, it is like a flash light focused on face. Aston Installations is aware of the issue and waiting forever for an update since release of iOS 13. So for now, if you are planning to install Aston installations CarPlay in your Aston Martin (not Mercedes Entertainment System), better wait for an update to fix the issues before purchasing it.
It would be nice if Aston Installations lists any known bugs on their product page than us reporting them only to find out they are already aware of the issues.
(Smile) . Admittedly, their first version was sub-par to say the least but to their credit Apple has buckled down and has done a terrific job with improving Apple maps. All mapping systems have their issues, but Apple maps IMHO is on a par with Google and superior in some ways.
I know many of you are fans of this upgrade...I've hesitated because I've felt that the "integration" is not all that complete as of yet, especially to make it look like it was not so aftermarket..The lack of touchscreen is a big factor but the "joystick" to make it work seems real intrusive into the cabin. Where to locate it, how to mount it so cable does not show, etc.
I was out for an early morning drive this AM and discovered to my delight that when I use my Bovee 1000 for integration of all my smart phone fuunctions and Alexa with bluetooth streaming and calls, I can use the factory center console joystrick, in addition to voice commands to skip,..repeat streaming music from Pandora, etc., While I love voice control, often, when the music is loud, of driving with the windows down, the voice functions are not usable.
So, Apple Android car gurus, why can't you integrate the Joystick that is in the 2009+ models into the Carplay and Android Auto system? Seems to me like this would be the promised land to true aftermarket integration.
I would like to experiment with Sony XAV-AX8000 ... but where to mount the screen ? Any ideas ?

I recall seeing a video from an installer in NYC that mounted an iPhone in the center console armrest... that's an ideal location for touch screen access with the nav screen being a mirror...
sort of like the touch pad concept of the new MB... Console armrest could be repurposed from wreck or bought new with a new Alcantara or leather cover to match or contrast interior...
