What adhesive to use for loose velcro?
Hey everyone, while pulling apart the rear seat during a battery replacement, the velcro attached to the underside of the seat came loose from the seat. I am noticing some other velcro coming loose from its permanent placement, as well. I've always wondered what specific kind of adhesive automakers use to join things like velcro to metal or other various surfaces. Any ideas on what to use to get this properly adhered again that won't risk damage to the seat? I expect that hot glue isn't safe. Thanks in advance for sharing your experience.
3M makes a very thin double-sided tape (more like a film than tape). It's very thin, and very, very sticky. Kind of a hassle to work but it is extremely effective when applied to clean materials.

Update that contact cement did not work for me. It simply pulled apart instead of the velcro. I'll have to try some of these other options, unless anybody knows specifically what AM or other manufacturers use during original install.
So you mean new velcro with an already-applied adhesive backing?

In case that doesn't work (I assume it will), the tape I mention in the third post above is "3M 300LSE adhesive transfer tape." Its basically a really, really thin double-sided tape...like VHB but without the foam in the middle. There are bunch of variants, but I can say from direct experience that p/n 9472LE and 9474LE have both worked well for me.
I've used it to re-attach the passenger footwell carpet to the aluminum fusebox cover, the sound insulation on the back side of the inner fender liners, etc. Definitely worth playing around with.
