Curious...haven't seen a lot of posts on the DB11. A lot of Vantage owners though. Opinions on new DB11 2017-2020. 2017 or 2018 good buy? Worth trading for or buying a DB11?
Just picked up a 2018 V8 DB11 used (check my profile for pictures), with more than 30k miles. Its a great buy IMO, if you can still get one with warranty (mine has 1.5 years more). Used prices have dropped considerably. I went with the V8 because it uses the merc M177 engine, generally considered reliable and easy to work on in case things go belly up.
It has great power, and makes a great sound. I'll admit it doesn't have the character or prestige of the V12, but those were worth it considering the deal I got. There are a ton of used ones around me here in Southern California, which made shopping and buying easier. There's also plenty of shops around me that work on Mercedes/exotics so i'm not concerned about that long term.
I have owned two Vantages (a 2010 convertible, and a 2012 V8S). Both were great. I traded in the 2012 for a DB11 V12. The DB11 is an awesome car. The level of detail makes it feel different from the Vantage. Attached are some pictures, including one next to the Vantage on trade in/pick up day.
At first I was not impressed with the DB11 thinking the Vantage (previous to the new one) was better looking, especially the interior being 'cleaner' design less blingy. I went to a track day and was a passenger in Aston's V12S with a professional driver following a BD11 - wow, could not believe they were so well matched. The design grew on me (not the interior) and it's nicer than a DB9 and does not seem overly large. It does have nice touches like the switch gear. Morries (my Minneapolis Dealer) dumped all the new Vantages except an "in your face' green which I suspect nobody wanted. They kept their DB11's of which I noticed only one used one right now. What I did notice all of their new Astons offered and all of the new DB11's are V12S - a year ago it was all V8's. I'd much rather have a V12 DB11 than a V8 - seems like the sales department thinks the same (they have just one DB11 V8 - a left over 2019). It's nice to see DB11's moving so well.
One of the big reasons why I bought the V12 DB11 was b/c I never owned a V12 and we all know that most manufacturers have already phased out 12 cylinder vehicles. I wanted to experience owning one before they became obsolete. As you can see from my signature I currently own a variety of vehicles, including the first Porsche EV the Taycan. The Taycan will smoke my DB11, but there is still something magical about the roar of the V12 coupled with the level of finish and detail in an Aston.
Awesome. Thanks for the feedback. Debating trading in my 14 V8V. Had it a yr. Enjoy it but probably would prefer true auto and some room in the rear. The newer tech draws me too. Have an 18 Merc E300 so like the Merc brand and quality. Looking for a good deal on 17 or 18. Seem to depreciate like crazy.
