Couldn't be happier with the results as it (at least IMO) transforms the car to something more modern. The black surrounds of the carbon edition go really well with darker body colors. I purchased these from Redpants as they include all the extra hardware you may need and the price is competitive considering they're brand new lights shipped from the motherland.
First some quick pics on the car, then some tips for installation.
For the install, I highly recommend first watching Rich Redpants' video on YouTube. It's for a Vantage, but the majority applies to DB9's as well:
I began the same way he did by removing both body colored trim pieces from the original tail lights while they were still on the car. Continuing on to the right (passenger) side on my '09 DB9, I did not have screw caps on top of the carpet like on his Vantage. I also did not have to remove any other panels or fasteners prior to peeling back the carpet. In preparation, all I had to do was unscrew the mount for the emergency trunk release cable (8 or 10mm), which you may want to skip and revisit later as it may not have been necessary.
Next, use your hands to loosen up some weather stripping before peeling the carpet away from the metal trunk frame. Unfortunately, there's no way to remove the tail lights without doing this step. I was a bit concerned as the carpet is purely held on by adhesive and given all these years I feared it may not stick back. Alas it was still sticky enough to hold back together afterwards. Plus, the weatherstripping helps to keep them in place.
Once peeled back, you can see where the emergency trunk release cable attached. I guess this is where you can figure out if there is enough slack in the cable to move the carpet back enough to where you need it. If not, proceed to detach it.
Now with the carpet pulled back you will find all 3 nuts (17mm?) holding the tail light in. Again, this is on the right side:
Everything else is as follows in the video. I did not have to remove anything on the Left side before peeling back the carpet. Here's the Left side mounting for reference:
It's an easy, straightforward install. The most time consuming part was probably scraping clean and prepping the underside of the body colored trim pieces prior to re-installation. For my '09, the end result was plug and play with no error codes. I do not know about earlier model years. Hope this helps someone!
