Trunk not Opening/Gas cap stuck open /ctek changer fail
Trunk not Opening/Gas cap stuck open /ctek changer fail
So I've done my research and can't find solution or a similar issue like mine. Here's the situation..
I pulled my car in the garage plugged up the ctek charger in the trunk which I've done for years. when back to the garage about 15min later and my park lights front and back were on and my gas cap lid was popped wide open. I immediately unplugged it and the lights went off but not my trunk won't open and the gas cap can't close.
on the gas cap looks like the notch/pin that holds it in place is stuck in. I check the manual release inside the trunk and the white pull tab connect to the solenoid will not move.
The trunk will not open from the inside button next to the gear **** or the remote, when i do pull on it I can hear the trunk actuator sound trying to release. The manual trunk release works fine as thats the only to open right now.
I've check all the fuses inside the cabin none seems blown. my 12v charger inside works, grove box open I can lock and unlock doors everything else seems to work fine.
I've done a battery disconnect from the truck problem not fix.. I've done a hard reset disconnecting the battery cables and connect both cables ends like IRISH07 recommended in one thread still doesn't fix the issue
Could the ctek charger blown/fail both my gas cap and trunk solenoid?
Anyone have a suggestion of fixing this issue I would greatly appreciate it.

My ctek has lost it's connection several times with the plugin in the trunk. Each time the battery will drain down enough for the car not to start. The first time I thought it was the battery, I ended up wasting a couple hundred $ on a new battery. I don't know why it does this. Now I check the lights on the ctek everyday and if they are all out, I know the connection is lost. I unplug it from the car and the wall, reconnect and it works. For some reason when it loses connection it drains the battery. This is the first car I have every owned that if the battery is even a little low won't turn over at all. I am going to use the adapter that screws onto the battery posts and start connecting there.

modern cars are ruled by a dictator. and the dictator is the ECU and the ECU is a computer. and computers don't run if the current is not adequate, and the car cannot start if it can't run and it can't run without a booted up ECU and that can't happen if it doesn't have enough voltage. it's that simple. hence modern cars will not even attempt to start unless there is adequate (as defined by the ECU) current. unfortunately, they are often mute on the subject...so it's often not readily apparent that the source of the problem is the battery.
and it may not be the ctek's loss of connectivity that is causing the battery to discharge. after all, the reason one often uses a ctek is to prevent the battery from discharging on its own. and if the ctek is not connected... well the battery is just being a battery.

I would def. put a battery charger (and not a tender) on the positive post in the engine compartment (ground to the engine) and try again. I have found that cures many ECU / Battery voltage woes.
Battery isn't an issue I can start and drive just fine after the issue. I just can open my trunk or close my gas cap.. I can hear the trunk release attempting to work when I push the inside or trunk button. gas cap pin is stuck will not release and manual release jam no movement.
I know you have checked this but is the trunk lid actually all the way closed? Sometimes if I don’t close the trunk correctly it will look closed an act closed. Then after driving around and hit a bump the trunk light will come on. So I stop and sure enough the trunk is slightly ajar. Just a thought.

Update/Warning. I fix the issue with the fuel door it was the actuator that failed after replacing it opened and closed fine. the issue was the catch pin was stuck inwards when my ctek charger failed/ it caused the actuator to fail ..so it retracted inwards and compressed the spring attached to a cable inside pin in the fuel cap.
Haven't fix the trunk issue but it's safe to say its the actuator that failed based on the above solution.. not in a rush as I don't really use my trunk only for battery charging.
This brings me to me the Warning ..I've been using the ctek charger in the trunk for 8 + years no issue until this happened. this was the cause of these actuator failures I would recommend charging your battery with direct connection behind your seat location. I had a mechanic had warm me about charging via the socket connection due to issues he had seen caused to electrical systems but now lesson learned.

I purchased two (2) CTEK battery tenders and they both failed after one month. If you look at the other forums/pages many have had the same issue. I consider them junk.
I then purchased a solidly build TECMATE OptiMate 6 and it has worked perfectly for two years. I purchased several more and have them on other vehicles like tractors, and again they work perfectly.
The only good thing about CTEK is their marketing department. After that it’s downhill.
