Now this is the beginning of end as we know it.

 

I have a suspicion that 'reality' and 'policy' will meet somewhere in the middle to produce 'consequences of an economic nature' somewhere within that timeline. I don't see it working out as they envision it.

 

I'm not sure how it is in the EU, but here in the US, we can barely manage to produce enough energy to supply electricity the homes in our country, let alone the roughly 1% of cars in the country that require charging, and that energy mostly comes from burning fossil fuels. Until we more heavily adopt nuclear, or until Elon Musk builds his 10,000 square mile solar field, or until the government releases the alien energy technology they have kept secret for decades, we have no future in EV cars, no matter how much Greta pushes for it. I could write a book about how mislead the "green movement" is, but this, IMO, is the main reason it is doomed... or will doom us.

 

there is not enough open land in the US to provide solar panels for residents to convert away from fossil fuels...
battery technology and power grids need logarithmic scale changes before an electric based life style could be achieved

 

Can you imagine the lines at the charging stations (gas stations converted) when it takes a minimum of 30 minutes to charge. We will need Walmart size parking lots full of chargers. Imagine the fights over chargers. This whole thing is insane.

 

That would be the case, but you are forgetting most people can either charge at home or work

 

all electricity generating grids are WOEFULLY underutilized during off-peak (i.e. while people sleep) hours. and that is the time that automobiles will most likely be charged. the impact on existing electricity generating grids will not be NEARLY as much of a problem as it is made out to be.

Won't be that easy, many people live in apartments, rentals etc. We will all see.

 

most people don't have homes... they live in multifamily apartments and live paycheck to paycheck. Most companies don't any or insufficient charging stations...

How will they get electricity? Oh yea... Thor and his hammer attracts lightning

 

Graphene batteries and massive nuclear adoption are our best hope.

 

I have a couple friends with EV's that can't charge at home or work. Their lives largely revolve around when and where to charge their car. Much of the time I hang out with them, it's at a place with or near an available charging station. I gotta say, it seems like a miserable way to live.

 

I live in a pretty average apartment, and our complex has a ton of under-utilized charging areas (although i’ll admit, they are relatively new).

 

Think of every car around the world that parks on the street.

 

This comment reminds me of the recent Jeep commercials where these EV Jeeps climb trails and reaches a summit to plug into an EV charger sitting in the dirt, not connected to anything.

 

just a funny thing to add to this thread, yesterday night power to the town where i live was out for 5 hrs
so today in an electric car world there would be quite a few people not going to work. lol
