Hi guys -- the underside 'ground effect' lights on the driver side of my car lost function. Passenger side is working. Any thoughts on what I should maybe look for? I'd rather not bring it in for service just for this.
Yeah... when I unlock my car I get a courtesy light underneath the rocker that illuminates the ground in front of the door. It turns off when I start the car, and comes back on again when I shut down and open the doors again, and stays on for few minutes after.
I actually really like the feature. But it's only lighting on the passenger side now.
Weird, I thought it was stock because it's the exact color temperature of all the other lighting and it only comes on when I unlock the car as a courtesy light. Also I had the car thoroughly inspected by a very well-respected Aston shop and they never mentioned it, so I assumed it was just a standard feature. They picked out a couple of other things that weren't stock, so they do look out for these things.
Regardless, I guess the choice now is to leave it or disconnect it. Honestly I do like the feature. It's unobtrusive and doesn't come off as ricer or anything because its only on when the car is unlocked or the doors are open. It's pretty useful in a dark parking lot tbh.
If you search this forum, and I believe Pistonheads, you will find after-market ground lighting installed by Aston owners. Most often with the Aston logo projected, sometimes utilizing the door courtesy light, but maybe some insight on the installation & a possible fix for you. My guess would be the bulb, a loose connection or a fuse. All DIY.
Eh, now that I know it’s not factory I’m not going to screw with it myself. I’ll bring it to the shop and let them assess. If they recommend pulling it out I’ll defer. If it’s something they can work with I’ll let them deal with it.
