Stripped screws in crystal keyfob
Stripped screws in crystal keyfob
I opened the crystal keyfob to change batteries. It took me 30 minutes just to get the first two long ones out. A bit of banging and gently twisting eventually worked. Then when I got to the battery cover there were 6 of 7 tiny screws. Every one was stripped and not holding the top at all.
Does anyone make these in one size up?

I can usually make stripped screws like this work again, if the service for the screws is light duty as they would be in this application.
use either a silicone adhesive, or better, a two part clear epoxy.
If the epoxy, mix up, then use a toothpick to place a drop of epoxy into the screw holes. You can let the epoxy partially set up, then assemble the screws into the gel like holes, or let it set up a little more and thread the screws into the semi hardened epoxy.
In either case, you have to be careful with "timing" and neatness because if the epoxy runs out past the holes or is not semi set, it could glue the cover in place.
With a silicone adhesive, since this stays kinda rubbery even when fully cured, you can thread the screws into the hardened silicone and not jeopardize gluing the cover to the body.

Thanks BWings...I'll try that as a last resort. In the meantime I took a caliper to the screws and will look to order slightly larger. Two larger screws
1.95 mm head diameter
.95 mm thread diameter
10.55 mm long
7 smaller screws
1.45 mm head diameter
.84 mm thread diameter
3.17 mm long

I ordered a screw kit that should have these sizes along with various size increases. I like your loctite idea too. I’ll get this to work with everyone’s suggestions. Thanks again.
