Time to swap out my battery, not because it’s acting up and failing or discharging fast, but because this Deka battery has a date code of 1/17 and is 8 years old.
I have never had a battery last this long, ever, maybe 5 to 6 years max.
So hats off to Deka, for this battery at least!
But for data point comparison, I recently swapped one out that was 10-year old and original in my 911. Likewise, no funny symptoms. Got a good deal on AGM.
That's not too surprising when the battery is in the cabin and kept cool. When we lived in Phoenix our kids' cars on the driveway and battery under the hood would only last a few years. Both of our cars with batteries under the seat and kept in the garage would last almost 8 years at a time.
The Bosch AGM I put in the DB9 is going on 6 years and still cranks like new.
if anyone's interested:
After getting very inconsistent results trying to run battery health tests via the engine bay charging/boosting power posts, have fitted this little gadget (BM300 Pro) directly onto the battery and can monitor its health and crank capacity continuously. It draws very little power on its own (1mA) when logging and it helps me see the alternator charge current and the trickle charger activity directly on my phone. The range is good enough to do it from my phone over Bluetooth at home while the car's in the garage. It can be had for about $23 (incl ship!)

Thanks all! Just ordered one but, as I have a new battery (Oct 2023), I will install it on my '03 Jeep TJ, which is on a trickle, but outside......cool piece of gear assuming it works right. Thanks for the tip!
