I've replaced the PATS transceiver itself in my 07 DB9 and no coding was required. I always thought of the transceiver as a passive antenna connected to the canbus and it's only job was to relay the key rfid codes to the CEM/PCM. The actual PATS system is in the PCM or the CEM (I forget which).
The transceiver is in the steering column, mounted near the ignition keylock with an antenna loop that runs around the lock where the key light ring is.
Oh, I forgot about the crystal key. The image I sent is for the normal key. Pre crystal key, the transceiver is just the antenna for the PATS system and nothing is coded to it. The code you're seeing probably indicates the transceiver itself cannot be seen by the other modules. Of course there's no way for the key to be validated if the transceiver is offline.
I'm not as familiar with the crystal key dock, but it looks like there are two plugs, a larger plug that has all of the ignition functions and a second smaller one that I assume is the PATS transceiver connector. I can look over the schematics for the 09 later and double check.
Ok, the little red light on the left side of the cluster, the PATS light slowly blinks until I insert the key, like daddy into mommy...(🤭. At that point, it stops blinking.
If I insert mommy's lover instead, ( read here the original key from the flooded car) it keeps on blinking and if I push it all the way in, the starter motor turns but I get a message saying "error key".
This leads me to think that the **** ring is working.
Probably a wee bit over the top. To each his own...
I wonder if transceiver error was generated during the process of moving over modules and hasn't cleared out on it own then. It would be interesting to see what codes show up for each key after a fresh code clear. Basically... ignition on with one key, clear codes, ignition off, key out, key in, ignition on, attempt engine start, read codes. Repeat for the other key.
My thinking is that the hard impact this of
car had, remember that all electronics migrated from the smash car to the flooded car, created a safety "don't start" blockage.
No one so far has given me an answer to this hypothesis. Because if so, wouldn't it be possible to erase this safety blockage?
