I have a bit of a issue that i'm not positive about the cause.
The coolant hose protection bracket that sits at the base of the engine has a thick coating on the bottom of it. I did a coolant flush last year and the bracket was looking normal.
This year the plastic type coating was melted and dripped onto the coolant hose.
The back side of the bracket does show some belt contact - i don't know if that is new or not.
Any thoughts?
I remember this bracket when working on the car last year. My coating (or was it foam?) was intact and I don't recall seeing belt marks on the top. In your case, it seemed that the coolant hose has rubbed against the coating. Was the bracket loose? Also, that coolant hose runs hot during operation, so chances are it may have touched the bracket and melted the coating.
edit: On a side note, hopefully not hijacking your thread (happy to remove if needed), I had to replace the internal o-ring for that coolant hose end in your picture. Mine was seeping. The size is 45mm (ID) x 4mm (WD).
Yea, something i didn't want to see.
The bracket was still torqued to spec. and it is a possibility that it was close enough to melt the material.
Thing is when i pulled the coolant hose, if anything it would have been edged up a bit, that bracket is not easy to bend.
I'm going to redo the bracket with a thin layer of RTV on the bottom, and paint the belt side to see if any contact is happening
I'll have to keep an eye on it with my endoscope from time to time.
You have the newer V12 engine? If so, I have a theory. That hose probably moved up and down during driving. Trace hose upwards and it maybe attached to a water bypass pipe with a screw attached to a bracket/frame. See if that screw is missing or the pipe has a broken bracket.

@EJ_Rapide 2010 on I believe. AM11 engine designation. Then the 2nd gen is 2013 on with AM 29/AM28. Maybe someone can confirm this as well.
@AM-DB9.2 I hope that loose nut was the reason for the scuffing. Did you blue loctite it? I need to check mine soon. A while back, I posted a dislocated bypass coolant hose clamp from that pipe. Was probably a tech's error instead of vibration etc.

Ah! I'll have to check that on my 2010 Rapide.
Thanks again!
This is interesting. I had my 2015 up on my lift and the undertray off as I was just in the process of an oil change. So when I read this thread I went to look at my car, and sure enough, that rubber/plastic coating is also melting off, just as in the OP’s case. But there is no evidence of any belt rubbing (looked with a mirror) and the bolt holding that crossover tube is nice and firm - nothing is loose anywhere. I guess the coolant pipe just gets too hot!
I plan to address this when I do a coolant change in a few months…probably remove that rubber coating and apply some sort of aluminized heat insulation.
