TPMS Question

This is going to seem weird, but just bought a 2016 V12S Timeless Certified from a US Dealer, there are several issues on delivery (yesterday), I wanted to keep the car original, but the dealer I guess to fix scratches on the wheels decided to powder coat the wheels a dark grey which maybe someone would like, but they are pretty awful. My current V8 Vantage has pretty spectacular wheels and more recent TPMS which my wife suggests I should switch. Not sure but the v8 Wheels (originally from a DB9 20" and 21") should clear the carbon fiber brakes. My question for now, should I switch wheels, are the newer TPMS sensors automatically sensed or do I have to take the car to a dealer (7 hours drive) to program the sensors? I think these cars automatically sense new TPMS but could be wrong (I can aways switch the TPMS if I go that route). I'm pretty upset and want to see how the Aston Martin dealer responds tomorrow to the few issues I have. Powder coating V12S wheels pretty much destroys their bare metal beauty and value. The ads shows the original wheels, So please just keep answers to the TPMS issue. Hopefully I can post soon how this dealer responded positively to this and other issues.

2011 and newer sensors should be tested Beru ones. But word of caution, they only last about 8 years. Good news is they are plug n play. So self learning and aftermarket ones seem to work ok.

As mentioned, your 2016 will be self-learning. Congrats on the new V12S! I bought these sensors last year - https://www.tpms.com/Aston-Martin-Hu...stonmartin.htm

They're cheap if you end up needing new sensors, but I have been getting occasional errors and not sure if that is due to the sensors or an issue with the receiver. When I get the error I can still cycle through the screens and see the pressures for each wheel to keep an eye on whether I actually have a flat, so it's been more of an annoyance than anything.

Went the same route with my Rapide and am getting the occasional "false" alarm on the sensors. It will usually clear 5-10 mins into the drive.

I've used that place several times for sensors and hadn't heard of that issue. They are local to me and are easy to deal with. $100 for sensors is a no brainer.

I bought my 2011 V8 from Fairfield Jag. They installed new TPMS from Miller Aston which was $1K (not charged to me). I asked why so expensive and they said the TPMS is designed to speeds upwards of 200MPH. Seemed a reasonable explanation. My speed limit is about 80.

New wheels trasferred from V8 no TPMS issues

OK, so I bought the 2016 V12S from Park Place Aston Martin, and there were issues from the sale. In particular different stories from the salesman on why there would be a 10 day delay in getting the title work, and not delivering with temp tags which after many calls, I finally got the tags. The largest issue was the delay in shipping which the salesman stated: We are fixing some scratches on the wheels and wanted to make sure the car is pristine for you. Ok, no problem. When the car rolled off the transport, instead of the beautiful metal finish, someone powder coated the wheels in dark grey, not the polished aluminum in the ad! I cannot describe how upset I was. My intention was to keep the car in pristine 'original' condition, or at least the appearance of it. Given the prices of V12S on the market, the $123,500 price was fair for a 24K mile with two years Timeless Warranty with the options. Not a great price but fair. Miller Aston Martin quoted $13K for discounted OEM wheels. So I decided to switch the wheels from my V8 Vantage to see if that would work. While they do look spectacular, I'm considering Forza replication of the diamond turned polished with gloss black Aston Martin design but in 20" with 1/2" front and 1" rear offsets ($3K delivered). Other issues? I sent a glass spare key form my V8 to be programmed to the new car, but the original key powers everything but wont start the car. The first mile i drove the car with the original wheels, when at a stop and indicated first gear, the car acted as if was in neutral and I had to pull the paddle to go, afterwards sport mode was not active. This has happed two more times in just 70 miles. When I asked the salesman to check clutch life I got excuses, but eventually got a readout. Anyway the V8 TPMS works fine. This is my 7th Sportshift Vantage - this is my first with a problem! Any ideas on the Sportshift issues?

Do you have any before and after photos of the wheels? I think I would've walked away from the sale if they powder-coated the factory wheels post-purchase without asking. That is a material change to the sale with a real financial impact shifted to you if you actually wanted the car in factory condition. (end rant)

At the end of the day, that's a beautiful car. Congratulations!

I can't comment on the Sportshift issues, but I've also had bad experiences with Park Place and specifically with their "most senior" salesperson. I'd get in touch with Aston Martin corporate on this, especially if it has the Timeless warranty.

I had already paid cash for the car weeks before it was shipped.

I have OEM winter and summer wheels and they take a couple of minutes to read after I swap sets.

They still are likely in breach of contract on the sale. They owe you a product as described and pictured. At the minimum that means they owe you a set of factory wheels in the condition pictured in their listing. Either that or a refund in the amount required to replace them.

At the end of the day it's about what makes you happy though.

Those V12 wheels are fairly common. You should be able to find a used set. Or something nicer online. I would be more cautious of buying any car sight unseen, only in photos.

Actual, its sort-of worse than that. If the car was already paid for, then he's the owner of the car. They modified a car he owned without asking him. No different from taking the car to the dealer for service and the dealer just deciding to modify the car to something you don't like without asking.

Regardless it really looks incredible with your silver wheels. Dark wheels on silver look strange.
