DB9 easy way to replace backseat lights
DB9 easy way to replace backseat lights
I was just going through this today and figured out something I’ve not seen shared elsewhere. I’ve just finished swapping all of my interior lights to leds. Like most people I’ve seen, I was really struggling to get the light housing in the backseat out of the panel to replace them.
After much trial and error, I followed the video below to remove the seat bottoms and backs, this took me less than 10 minutes. From there, you have enough access where the seat back was to reach up behind the light and reach the bulb holder itself. It twists and pulls out of the housing, like a turn signal bulb, and you can very easily pull it and its wiring out of the hole your hand is in, swap the bulb, and fish it back up behind the housing.
I did not take any pictures of this unfortunately, but it’s really quite straight forward. If you’re still unsure of what you’re dealing with behind the panel, do the trunk bulbs first. To change those, I wedged my hand behind the carpet and popped the entire housing out, from there you can easily see the bit you need to twist to remove the bulb holder - the housing in the backseat is the same. Note that I could not get the entire housing to release in the backseat, I was only able to twist and remove the bulb holder. Hope this helps someone else!

In theory, and the trunk housings are relatively easy to pop out because the carpeted panel is more forgiving to allow it to squeeze through, the clips are even in the same place. In mine though, even after I had access to both rear clips and the whole housing with my hand I still could not push it out through that panel. I didn’t actually pull that panel and look at the back of it, but it would not surprise me to find these are affixed in some other way not noted in the workshop manual, mine is an 09, so it is possible there’s some oddities due to that.
