Is there a way to disable the Cornering Lights?

I recently installed 8,000K HID replacement bulbs for my low beam lights, and they look awesome! I'll post some pictures soon.

I would like to disable the Cornering Lights that turn on automatically when the steering wheel is turned. I don't feel that the Cornering Lights provide a noticeable increase in illumination, and the OEM H11 halogen bulb looks terrible.

If I can't disable the function, I'm going to replace the OEM bulb with a high-end PIAA "white" bulb.

Thanks for your help!

canberk is infamous around these parts
cut the wires that power the cornering lamps and use a 47k ohm resistor to make the computer think there's a lamp there to avoid any error messages on the dash. I don't think it checks the cornering lamps so it's better to check to see if it detects the absence of the cornering lamps, if it does, then go with the resistor method...

Not sure if I feel comfortable cutting wires. I was hoping there was an "option" to turn it off.

I guess I will just replace the bulbs with a whiter color temp halogen. I know I can do an HID upgrade, but that seems like overkill.

Jeff SD, the bulbs seem pretty easy to replace. You need to remove the entire headlamp and there is an panel that you'll open to access the bulb. I tried to take the bulb out last night and had a difficult time removing it. I didn't want to force it out and break anything. Let me know if you have better luck.

you have to take the whole headlight unit out>>>

use the universal socket wrench in the tool kit and take out the entire headlight casing. once removed, the back cover pops off and reveals access to the bulbs. the cornering bulb is an h4 bulb.

yes thats correct, what an amazing system that is by porsche, i could not beleive how easy it is to remove the headlights for bulb changing etc.

after poping open the plastic cover (with a pic of the light on it) you just insert the tool (# 10 i think) to a small squarish bolt head (at a 45/deg angle) then twist in the direction shown on the plastic cover, and out pops the headlight, with no wires connected as the unit has a male/female connector at the back, its as easy as that. (10 secs)

in comparrison i have a 07 nissan 350z and to change the side light bulb you have to jack the car up...take off the front wheel, remove the inner plastic splash covers (8 clips) and squeese your hand through a square gap....if you wanted to take the headlight out compleatly...you have to compleatly remove the front bumper and all bits....crazy.

good old porsche....

Really? I personally love the side lights when I turn steering wheel at night time. But we are all created differently, so I can see some of us don't see the point of these lights.

The cornering lights on my '09 GTS are definitely H11s, not H4s.

I wasn't having any problems removing the headlamp assembly itself...that's a piece of cake! The light bulbs however seemed very stubborn and wouldn't remove easily, despite what is says in the owners manual (turn counter clockwise roughyl 45 degrees).

Anyone actually replace these lights yet?

I just replaced my left cornering bulb today! I was sick of the 'check left cornering bulb' announcement everytime I turned left (only once per engine start). It was VERY simple. Just follow the instructions in the owners manual. Took me about 10 minutes. Use some needle-nose pliers to reach back in there to unhook the bulb and detach the electric leads. You'll know what I'm talking about once you get in there.
