Exclamation Comments about Vanquish 2002......please!!

IM looking to buy an AM Vanquish 2002. black/black. I need your comments about that car. I own a 996TT 2003. I want to change it for something different. I own a porsche since 1996.
The AMV8 is only 2 places. I Have a young children (3yrs) so I need a 2+2.
For the same price, I can have a lot of choice... Continental GT, 997TT, etc... but a vanquish is an exclusive car, very rare, very diff.
Is it a good choice or not???
Thank you!!

I'd get a DB9.

I looked at early Vanquishes as well, but the gearbox is really an acquired taste .. I found it mushy and unresponsive. I also figured that the later model (2005, 2006) Vanquishes had the more updated interior, and the 2002 models looked really dated and old to me for some reason.

it's a very unreliable car, especially that year. the 05 is your best bet. btw not all vanquishes are 2+2, that is an option. bently cgt is only reliable after mid 05, otherwise plan on service. i went with the amv8 but i didn't need the rear seats for this car. so my choice would be an 06 bently cgt, i almost picked up an 05 for 127k.

Yeah, 02 is not the year to have. As gorgeous as those cars are from the outside, mechanically they're not very reliable and the interior is a travesty with all the ford switchgear...

Before you even consider a particular car, contact your AM dealer. Have them run a VIN check. They will tell you the car's entire service history with AM and whether it is eligible for the full extended warranty. When AMs go out of warranty, they are eligilble for a partial warranty, but not the full.

To the best of my knowledge, the gearbox just requires software updates, if they've not been done. In other words, the '02 has the same internal hardware. The issue with the gearbox, predominantly, is that at stops owners haven't put them into neutral. It burns the clutch out, requiring early replacement. As long as you understand how to operate the vehicle, it shouldn't be that big of an issue. However, do look at the specific vehicle's eligibility. It may save you a lot of $ down the road. BTW, if eligible for the full extended warranty, I believe it can be extended indefinitely (must extend every 3 years, IIRC).

More than welcome.

A postscript and update to my earlier post: was at the AM dealer this morning having a brief chat. Apparently, they've just had their first local Vanquish with a true transmission problem. The 6th gear "disintegrated". First I've heard of such a problem. They were, to put it mildly, "surprised". Car was not covered under warranty (old owner sold it in a private transaction and the new owner, a friend - now, probably a former friend - had owned it for 6 weeks...neither purchased the extended warranty). Tally was in the mid $30K's, FYI, for a new tranny.
