R8 hitting wall after losing control
It looks like classic trailing throttle oversteer. Tough day. The object of track days is to return home with the same car you brought... with just a little less tires and brakes and a bit more dust. I'm glad he wasn't hurt, but I am surprised that the side airbags didn't go off.
Ok, we all can see what started the accident, what should he have done to catch it ? He was already traveling backwards and no steering input ...So would it have been possible for a skilled driver to have missed the wall ...
In my opinion..., his throttle lift only compounded the fact that he entered the uphill esses too early. Although this allowed him more initial entry speed into the first corner of the uphill esses, it also threw him off his line and he couldn't make the 2nd corner with that speed and line, he then freaked out and lifted to slow down, and next thing you know he is cursing his own unique private deity....Tim-God.
He went in way to fast and early apexed, he really didnt apex at all really. The uphill esses are very fast and scary at vir. I know how it feels to want to lift in those turn but you gotta just let it slide.
I don't think the problem here was the car in front being too slow. I think this driver was just feeling invincible in his 'better' car and made a mistake. I suspect he would have done the same even without the car in front of him. Just bad line and then the off track excusion into the tires.
