i think that either was the v10 prototype or the TDI variant

Yup V10 that caught fire. The story from what I heard was that this was a twin turbo V10 from the RS6 and they could not figure out how to cool in this car so they went with the custom N/A v10.

They've burned a few of them now...

It's rumored to be the RS8, which they've been trying to make as a turbo V-10, but they can't keep the damn thing cool. As far as I can remember, that particular car didn't crash. It just straight caught fire...
