There was no '07 in the US. The E46 went until '06 and
The E9X came in '08.

if someone is listing an m3 in the states as an 07 it wasn't originally shipped here. i have an m5, not an m3. toyed with the idea of getting smaller but it didn't make sense for me...i need to be able to fit two golf bags in the trunk! good luck, i think the e46 m3 has generally been very reliable (save for some engine replacements early on) and very well regarded. like everything else it has collapsed in value of late which is good news if you are a buyer (and not selling anything of equal or greater value).

as for the two cars, others are probably more expert than i, but generally speaking the m3 is lighter and feels it, handles better and has a smaller trunk...the rs4 will be faster (but not by a huge amount), has quattro, is nicer inside and sucks more gas. looks are up to the individual--to me they are both really good looking cars, but the rs4 is really drool-worthy. the only major issue with the rs4 has been the drc problem which has been well documented on the various boards. otherwise it has been reliable as well. good luck, keep us posted.

Being in SoCal, you don't need Quattro like I did, but even aside from that, I'd still get the RS4. BMW's just don't do much for me personally.

If I couldn't have the RS4, I would've gotten the C63.

Thanks! I really like the looks of the BMW but not sure of performance. I think the RS4 is a animal! What about dependability of the engines? Can these cars be beat on,on the street. I am pretty hard on cars.

LEAD FOOT!

Yes plenty of people on 6speed own an RS4, I have a couple friends that own them locally, but don't always expect an answer in a few hours

So you're comparing RS4 with E46 M3 or with E9X M3? I had the opportunity to track RS4 for a day at Infenion Raceway in Sonoma 3 months ago and it was a lot of fun. The car did great but obviously the M3/RS4/C63 discussion is very subjective.

RS4 > E46 M3
E9X M3 > RS4

RS-4 Owner

I went from a 330i to a '04 S-4 to a '08 RS-4. 12.5k on it and no regrets. Awesome car!

Check out the European Mag comparasions a couple months back. It was a very good article. Personally, I have 08 RS4, it is a perfect-compromise sports sedan.
