S5 Sportback revealed ahead of Frankfurt Motor-Show

Audi`s newest 5-door sport-hatch gets the S4´s 3.0 litre supercharged lump (Audi will keep the V8s for their RS models) putting out 329bhp and delivering 324lb/ft of torque. Which will give the S5 Sportback performance of around 5.2 seconds to 60 mph.
This change from big V8s is a shame, but it does result in better economy – estimates for the S5 S/B are pushing on 30mpg – and the reduced emissions help car makers like Audi lower their average emissions, and important consideration these days.
The 3.0 litre supercharged engine gets mated to a seven-speed S-tronic, double-clutch ‘box driving all four wheels. You can also specify a sports diff for more fun. You also get a stiffer suspension setup, 18″ alloys and servotronic steering.
Audi aren’t giving any more away than they need to at the moment, so they’re taking about ‘Small yet striking exterior and interior features’ such as silk nappa leather sports seats. UK prices for the S5 Sportback haven’t been disclosed, but it will start at €57,900 in Germany.

I like this one better than the S5 coupe, however I still prefer the S4. It has the same engine, slightly better performance, and is cheaper!

currently its europe only. supposedly, audi's going to look at bmw's sales of the 5 series gt (which is considered to be a direct competitor) and make a decision of whether to bring it here to the states.

I love the S5 - an incredibly beautiful car.

Not feeling this one at all.

I don't see the purpose of this car. If you want a 4-door S car then you have the S4 or S6?

technically its a 5 door... or a 4 door with a hatch... or whatever they're calling this segment (a blend of wagon and sedan... not quite cuv)... not saying it makes it any better. for kicks, audi actually calls it a 5 door coupe!

http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/audi-s5-sportback-0/#2

so i suppose the real question is, of those who'd be interested in a s4 avant (wagon) or an s6 avant, who would change their mind and get this?

One of my few automotive regrets is not getting the S4 Avant instead of the sedan. The S5 hatchback as other posters have pointed out makes no sense to me at all.

I don't get the "4/5 door GT coupe.."craze either.

The S5 is an amazing looking coupe and the S4 is a good looking "stealth" sedan.

This thing, while beautiful really serves no purpose other than to satisfy a very small segment of the potential buyers. I would much rather have appreciated them releasing this design for the RS5 and shave the rear doors off. A coupe should be a coupe.

i think its mixture is doing the trick, it is sexier than the pampersbomber a4 avant, more versatile than the a4 sedan and as an A5 model its status is a bit above the A4s.

I think your comparisons are off the mark because you're comparing it to a standard "A" rather than the "S" that it is...

yeah pardon für not being precise enough, just wanted to compare the sportback concept with the sedan and avant in general.
of course i meant the status of the A5 sportback is a bit higher compared to the A4 avant and A4 sedan but it is the same with the S5 sportback compared to the S4 range. higher number - higher status.

S5 coupe: very sexy, lacks versatility
S5 sportback: sexy, very versatile
S4 sedan: sexy, not too versatile
S4 avant: looks nice for a wagon, versatile as eff
