R-tronic

Hey guys, so what's the verdict on the R-Tronic R8? I am considering the V10 with it and will get a chance to test drive soon but would like to hear your opinions. Test drove an Aston Martin Vantage with the SportShift and was not impressed. I mean the manual paddle shifting is OK, not as quick or seamless as the Porsche PDK but the auto mode left much to be desired. Is the R-Tronic better, worse or about the same as the Aston Martin SportShift?
Thanks.

audi r-tronic is same as lambos e-gear. automated manual.. aston u drove was normal automatic gear box.. huge difference. but either one of those are not doublecluch boxes like new porsches. audi is similar to bmw m5/m6 and ferrari f-1 and maserati mc-corsa gear boxes..

I have asked this same thing in comparison to the AM V8. That was the worst transmission (paddle shift) that I have ever experienced. I have an M5 and have been told R-Tronic is very very similar to BMW SMG. Other than being a little jerky in regular Drive mode, SMG is awesome, so I am assuming R-Tronic is as well. The only concern I would have, is if one wanted to add VF or PES supercharger, will R-Tronic handle the extra power/torque?

I've never driven an RTronic, but I know that PES has supercharged at least one of them. Also, when VincentDDS chimes in on this thread, he might be able to add some color to the discussion. His RTronic R8 is the "slowest" car he has, and he's driven my car in supercharged form so he should have a good idea.

Just drove the R8 V10 with R-tronic and 6-spd at Infineon.Preferred R-tronic and I'm a died in wool manual guy(RS4,M3,Porsche etc)V10 software and shifting is way better than the V8.

This is a very interesting observation. I have always heard that the R-Tronic shows its stuff at the track. How do you think the V10 R-Tronic will do in day-to-day driving vs. the V8?

Only downside for me is that I could get bored with the R-tronic after some time.I'd still opt for it over the 6-spd if I were buying today - in six weeks I'll probably flip and buy the 6-spd.You can't go wrong with either - the V10 is the star here!!

ive spent plenty of time in these carsthe R Tronic feels nothing like the lambo E-Gear. The R tronic is a great gearbox but you MUST get the Hill-assist (i think that's what they call it) or the car struggles to move uphill rom a standing start.the gearbox in the R8 is quite comfortable to drive in the city and its sportiest setting is nothing like the lambo. shifting hard in the labo is like someone slapping you in the back of the head and the R8 it is more like someone giving you a quick shove in the back. the Aston box is excellent for the car it is. city car and the box is very smooth with excellent downshifts. i have an r8 r-tronic and the benefit on track is fantastic compared to manual - not necessarily because the box is excellent for circuit use but because you dont have to take your hands of the wheel when shifting.
