Near Morristown. Original top works fine and is in very good shape. Metropole Blue. No tears. Covered 5 months each year.

That’s a bit of a “how long is a piece of string” type question. I’m sure there are more experienced members who can offer more details but a few key questions to consider are:

New, rebuilt or used engine?
Complete engine or just the long block?
if just the block, which of the old parts can removed and re-used? Which parts would you replace “ while you are at it?”
who will do the work - you or a mechanic? How much does the mechanic charge per hour? (I was given and estimate of 10-12 hours.)
Sorry I can’t give you a number but what it will cost each buyer will vary.

Does it turn over smoothly and quietly? ex any broken pieces? Was it misshifted and floated valves/stretched rods?

At this point, three cylinders are misfiring so smoothly is not the right word. Prior to that, it absolutely turned over smoothly and quietly without any rattling or sounds of broken pieces or loose parts. It has never been mis-shifted.
