My $190 custom exhaust
My $190 custom exhaust
$60 mandrel x pipe from ebay from ubendman
$130 local shop to weld it up...
i know i know its not stainless, its not tig welded, i never drive this car in the winter so I dont care I am just painting the midsection with high temp black paint.

Anyways car has more pull for sure, but if you are looking for more sound dont bother, it made the car more quiet. so tomorow I will do a muffler by pass.
I did not want to spend lots of $ on this job because I wanted to be able to revert it back in case i get sick of it and not lose $.

so tacked up a muffler by pass, went for a quick drive. did not like it. too much drone and too sloppy sounding.
added the stock resonator that we cut out, back in but in place the of the mufflers, they are small resonators.sounds good now. happy with it. slight drone at 1500 rpm. but sounds amazing at full throttle. screams like it should have from the factory

If you look at the pic you can see how the 3" xpipe Mates to the stock piping it slid right over it pretty tight,
I kept the stock size piping in the rear section

I understand. I ran into the same dilemma with my blown 1k hp 69 Camaro. Picked up a "plug and play" Magnaflow 3 inch kit and after making accommodations for crossmember, long tube headers, dynomax ultra flows and dumping at mid pipes I found that I only used the X pipe. I think you motivated me to do my own exhaust as well. Id like to incorporate the Magnaflow X pipe which is a full straight through 3 inch design which proves throaty and makes power. Also must go 3 inch mandrel.
yup, this exhaust is not for everybody but it works for me. I am handy and dont mind multiple visits on a hoist to tune in the right sound that works for me.
If I did it again I will just fab up a stainless 3" front to back, but people also dont realize that the down tubes from the upstream cats are small and same with the flex pipe. If I had to re do it I would cut that off and start off new from there, 3" flex into a collector.
just like these guys did

dont do a full x pipe cross, do a merge like how I did and keep the x closer up front to the collectors
Is that because the full X pipe needs more room to enter and exit the X?
