Control Arms + Tie Rods = $4k Reasonable?

Hi all,

I need to replace my tie roads and control arms. A local indie shop quoted me $4k including labour and parts.

Is this reasonable?

I dont have much experience with Bentley work yet as i have only had my 05 a few weeks but the parts arent expensive from the likes of Flying Spares so id think he is charging a whole lot for the labour on this job, has he quantified what he is doing?

Im keen to know because my 05 has a bit of kick back from the suspension over speed humps which has been suggested to be control arms so if its this kind of money to fix i will be well pi**ed off.

Thanks guys.

@Fahad502, do you know how much the part costs? I was quoted at $600 for each part and the car needs 4. Total is about $2600 just for the control arms.

Yes, about right - dealer replaces complete arm - some independants will push out the bushing and replace, their labour cost is a lot cheaper so they do it this way.

I changed only the bushes not the complete arm , only the rubber things it around 10 pieces , because there were a little cracks on them , because it last for more then 9 years , so I changed all of them

Thanks Digger11 and fahad502. My tech just told me the control arms can wait so I will probably replace the tie rod first. I will do the control arm maybe 1 to 1.5 year from now.

G.t subframes are identical to Audi A4 subframes and uses the same arms and anti roll bar links

They are readily available from independent retailers for a fraction of the price

They obviously won't be quite as high quality but they are still good I have used them before

I don't know where your from but in London I use euro car parts

Can you tell me more, what model A4 and what suspension parts can I use? I'm not mechanically minded and having just bought the car I'm hoping to save where I can?

The kick back I feel going over speed bumps etc can be felt from both front and back, is that likely to be roll bar bushes? I don't hear any knocking / clunking which I'd expect with worn bushes?
