Engine out - Flying Spur

Had a check engine light few weeks ago, took it down to the local Bentley dealer to be diagnosed. Turned out the car was misfiring in one cylinder and the gas temp sensors were shot. The fix for the misfire was a faulty injector.

Then came the EGT sensors. Driver side sensor was replaced without any issues, the passenger side sensor came out with the threads... the dealer tried to re thread the manifold to no avail, so the motor had to come out! Hopefully pick the car up Friday, the control arms are being replaced as well.

Some pics, didn't catch any with the motor fully out

lucky for me the engine removal is being good willed because the sensor shouldn't have had the threads stripped upon removal. I'm just covering the initial cost.

I picked up the car a week ago (after 5 weeks) I paid the following:

2 exhaust gas temp sensors including labour $1700, 3-4 hours
Injector replacement including labour $1200, 3-4 hours
Upper control arm bushings including labour $1100, 3.5 hours (saved a lot on labour here since the motor was already out)

Tax up here is 12% so total was just shy of $4,500

Once I took it home, the engine light came back on and the rough idle was still there, so essentially the car was in the exact same shape as it was when I dropped it off!

I dropped it off again for another 4 days, I just picked it up today, they replaced the MAF sensor and the battery, it seems to be running fine now, I guess i'll wait and see, I did not have to pay for anything today.

The battery is another story, I had it replaced at another Bentley dealer (1) and they put in an interstate battery which I was told by the other Bentley service dept (2) that it is incorrect. Bentley customer relations is dealing with it now, dealer (1) will refund and reimburse dealer (2).

Wow! You might could argue that the whole $4500 work was completely unneeded.
