Bentley flying spur.

Good Morning, all

I'm a Dane and I live in Monaco.

I just bought a 2008MY Flying Spur black with saddle interior. 50kmiles.

I should take delivery of the car next week.

I bought it from the Bentley dealer in Monaco who originally sold it to a long time customer who just took delivery of his new MULSANNE.

The car has a full Bentley history from new, it got its brakes (rotors and pads) replaced as well as its front dampers. it comes with a12 months Bentley warranty.

I will post pictures as soon as I will took delivery, next week.

I also drive a AUDI R8 and a Maserati Quattroporte.

before buying this car I spent an uncounted number of hours reading all the 82 pages of this forum!it seems to me now that, thanks to all of you, I know more about the continental than their designers and the dealer I bought the car from...

I must admit that I was quite hesitant about buying this car since I will drive it mostly in France and a Bentley is not really politically correct in today's socialist France, of course it's not at all the same in MC.
after reading this forum I decided that I ''needed'' this car.

originally I wanted a CGT but after driving it and driving the FS I choose the FS for its comfort, I'm often driving from MC to Denmark, and for its roomy interior since I have a wife who don't really believe that travelling ''light'' maybe feasible...

Welcome to the group of Bentley owners. Odd the cars you have. I considered first the Audi R8 when I was shopping for my first upscale car but ended up with the GTC. My wife wants a new Maserati QP but has a A7 now.

I am so glad you did not bow to the pressure of political correctness. What a bunch of crap.

Thank you.
well, for me the R8 which is nothing but a re-badged GALLARDO is most probably the best and the safest sport car money can buy.
it's a dream to drive, relatively cheap to maintain and totally ''bulletproof''.
I have made 60k miles since I bought it new, 4 years ago, including an untold number of miles on German autobahn at high speed and the only thing I have ever done on this car is going to the dealer every 12k miles for regular maintenance....
but is a car made for egoists, if you want to bring your golf bag you need to ask your wife to stay home!

the QP, on another hand, allows me to avoid being kicked out of my house by my family and it' still more fun to drive than a S class or a 7 BMW.
to the contrary of the common idea the QP is, when properly maintained, a very reliable car.
the main problem is that its Ferrari based engine has very little torque and not enough horse power for this rather heavy car...thus the FS!

you did well not to buy the new QP, I think its design as lost its ''soul''. their decision to design it ''in house'' was a mistake.

I found the interior of the FS extraordinary, but after reading the forum I'm still a little concerned about its reliability...we will see.

Hi Ulstrup.

Welcome to the forum and Bentley ownership.
Don't worry too much about the French, most of them actually know about Bentley's and quite admire them. Probably because of Le Mans.
I drive a lot of miles in France as I have a place in the 'Loire'. I've even given some of them a ride in my GT and they just love it.
One French friend I spoke to actually said that he likes the English attitude of buying what we want, whereas the French worry what the neighbours would think. How sad!

Enjoy your car.

As for Monaco, I have fond memories of my visit there because I met Princess Grace. She actually bought me and the rest of my Military buddy's a bottle of beer each. How cool is that.
Going back there is definitely on my to do list.

Regards. Les.

Hi, Les thank you for the welcome.

I don't worry too much about the French people as such, but around here the French police has a tendency to harass people with Monaco number plate....

having said that, the ''old communist'' behaviour of today's French government is getting on my nerves, really.

I believe that you will find that Monaco has changed a lot if you haven't come back since Princess Grace's days, I live here since I retire, 3 years, but I use to come here for holidays with my parents since I was a teenager, a loooong time ago..... and Monaco has, unfortunately, become a mixture of Disneyland and St Tropez, too bad.... but, thanks God, one little insignificant fact hasn't change...there is no taxes.

if you pass by let me know I will be glad to have a drink with you and to compare the CGT against the FS.

change of plans!

I painfully realized that at close to 60yo and 23years of marriage I'm still an idiot!!

Wednesday, when I went to Bentley to pick up the FS, my wife wanted to come along. That was a first since she is much more interested in horses rather than horsepower...
anyway, I was very glad that, for once, she was interested in a car I was buying....

Bentley Monaco has a very nice way to receive their customers, they make you sit in a very nice wood panelled room and offer you coffee and cookies when waiting for your car to arrive.
then, my , magnificent, Beluga Bentley Flying Spur arrived.... when she saw the car my wife made a face I know very well and I suddenly started sweating.
the salesman came in and asked my wife if she liked the car.
wrong question, wrong timing...
in essence she said:
yes indeed, for a glorified hearse it looks allright....and turning toward me she said: don't even dream of driving me in that car.

at this stage, the salesman nearly fainted and I was calculating, in my head, how much a divorce was going to cost me!
looking around in the garage, she pointed a continental GT and said that she believed that this was the car I was buying not a limousine looking like a hearse, again!and designed to transport old arthritic English Lords.

she was, obviously, upset.
and do not believe that I'm married with one of those one-neurone, 30 years younger than me trophy wife, my wife is an international lawyer and she is 50yo.
to shorten the story, we ended asking the salesman if he had any Continental GT for sale....
and we, well she I must say, ended buying an sapphire blue with saffron and blue interior 2007CGT with 28kmiles.
the car was a little more expensive so the salesman made no problem to cancel the sale of the FS and do the new paper work for the CGT.

I will pick up the car, alone, this evening....
that's a story proving how we, poor weak men, are manipulated by our wives!!!
somehow I start to believe that this, infamous, Muslim saying:'' beat your wife everyday, if you don't know why, she knows!''
is not without interest...

sorry for the long post but I had to share that since I'm still shocked!

Amusing story Ulstrup.

Women know best, sometimes. It's worth keeping on the right side of them anyway.
My good lady is also a Horsey type, a 'Horse Master' actually. Fortunately for me she is also a confirmed petrol head and actually sourced my GT without me knowing. Turned out to be my birthday present a couple of years ago. Good girl!
I'm sure you will love the GT and the colour combo sounds just about bang on.
Enjoy cruising around Monaco and remember to take the wife with you.

Les.

(Humor) I take offense, as my wife is much younger than I and she is amazing in every way

(Seriously) My wife also hates the FS. If you are being chauffeured... maybe. Glad to hear that your wife smartly chose the GT, and you should be very happy too. Did you really need a four doors / are you being chauffeured? Big family?

Exsf, I feel sorry for you.
every man who is unlucky enough to be married to a woman loving Horses have my deep sympathy!...
on another hand, having a Bentley has a birthday present from his wife....now, I envy you

''enjoythemusic'' I have tried my very best to be in your position! but I found out that ''young and smart'' was beyond my reach...so I settled for my second best option ''old and smart''

and no, I'm neither chauffeured nor I have a big family, my only son is studying in Stanford for the time being, so it's just my wife and I now and I still have the QP if and when I need four doors.

the biggest irony is that I have always preferred the CGT against the FS but my wife hates the R8 and love the QP thus I thought she would prefer the FS.....

anyway, I pick up my new, to me, car in 2h and I will post some photos tomorrow.

I am lucky Ulstrup. We have 8 acres of land and stables, but no Horses. My good lady thinks they are too time consuming these days.
Enjoy the car.

On the subject of Monaco and GT's. Have you seen this; http://www.autogespot.com/bentley-co...asi/2011/08/20

Yes, I have seen it originally made by Bentley Monaco as a show car and then bought by a koweiti who added the Mansory kit.... no comments.

In Monaco I live in a flat but we have an estate in LORGUES, abt. 100km away, where we have the horses.

the CGT has, finally arrived, but we are in Lorgues and it's pouring!!
I took two quick photos with the phone:

I only drove it from Monaco to Lorgues under a heavy rain but I already know that this car is a dream...

when and if it's stop raining I will take some more picture and also the inside. I like very much the colour combo.
I have tested the GPS, well, pathetic!
The car is much more comfortable than I thought originally but the rear view is non existent! I have to find a reverse camera compatible with the CGT screen.

Lovely car! Had an '06 just like that and loved it

FYI: My wife admits she misses the triple black dark tinted window GT versus the now here GTC in Silverlake colour. Seems the ladies like dark (black) GTs. Am sure your wife is very happy now.
