Hi Johnny ,
That video of the vac lines is great. Are you able in your own words to describe the complete function of the vac system.
There seems to be great complexity with all the pipes..
Please correct me if im getting the basic wrong but....all thst piping valves and check valves are there to Balance out vac from both manafolds to stop boost getting into the vac system and to allow the vac pump to create vac for the system only when engine vac is low .
I have made a new thread asking about all these pipes before seeing your video. Im glad I have seen it . Can you possibly talk us all through the cars systems that require vac and how/where that vac is taken from for that particular system
I wish I had the knowledge you have gained stripping and building Bentleys
Cheers,
Frank
Ps I understand if that is going to be too time consuming but any light on the vac system is appreciated.
Johnny, THANK YOU!!!! I will order the new seat belt assembly and do the repair! Your video, explanation of how to access the retractor and pictures have been a Great help an a relief for me! I will let you know how IO make out! Thanks again!

Hello All,
I would like to ask if I may, that if you view my videos on YouTube that I have made to help my fellow members here on 6speedonline and elsewhere, that you like the video, and possibly subscribe, I am a little shocked to see this morning that after I posted the seat belt video to help a fellow member here, that now most of my videos have been down-voted, as of 2 days ago, I have never had a down-voted video, and supposedly the down voting will keep my videos from being shown in search.
I'm going to try and make some time to view your videos @Johnny Hotspur GT Probably won't be of much use to me, but the effort you put in deserves reconition!

Hi Johnny ,

So, what I see as far as vacuum related or operated items, they would be the exhaust flaps which are electrical over vacuum, then also at the rear of the vehicle you have the vacuum operated evap system aka charcoal canister, that is it for the rear of the vehicle, in the front we have the vacuum operated waste gates at the turbos, these are also electric over vacuum, then depending on the year, split 2010 standard fuel system vs flex, the 2003 to non flex 2010 have a vacuum controlled fuel pressure regulator mounted right on the fuel rail, where the 2010 flex and newer have no FPR on the rail, they have variable speed fuel pumps, then of course we have the big main feed of vacuum to the brake booster.
Nothing about the suspension is vacuum related, nor is anything about the HVAC, nor is anything in the interior vacuum operated.
There seems to be great complexity with all the pipes.. Yes, they look that way... 😁

Correct, and because when we are making boost, we then have no vacuum to operate the flap, waste gates, evap, or the FPR, we need the vacuum pump.

Hello Frank, @Sunnyside ,
Please see my response in red.
Also, I do not recall at the very moment, but someone asked me about SAI motors/system and coding out, that at the moment I have no idea of, that would be a question for a tuner.

Thank you very much Johnny.
Excellent reply.
Im looking on Utube atm on how to make a cheap smoke tester. The jar and soldering iron seema to be the simplest way. What do you use. I think one must be essential. The bought ones are about £130 to 150 gbp for a cheap one. They are from china and output pressure is 1bar . Imo far too high. All is needed is a steady blow . Dont want to damage components etc.
Frank.
Those DIY smoke makers work just fine from my experience. Look like a homemade bong of some sort, but get the job done.
Made one from a 'pickle' jar, socks, baby oil, an old crappy radio shack soldering iron, a bic pen body/cap, some 3/8" clear tubing I had lying around and some e-2000 epoxy. Maybe 10 minutes
work once I gathered the scrap items from around the house, and overnight for the epoxy to cure. Used a standard air compressor with a bit of a 'leak' on the intake side to slow down the flow/lower the psi to a gentle stream and worked great finding the torn diaphragm in the pcv valve on my q7 with 200k miles on it.

Thats the sort im thinking of making. Cheap, reliable and I will give my self a lifetime warranty😁
Frank,
I never used one, I had just picked up my B back then and was searching online sites/YouTube and found Jason Giannetti's videos, then drove out to Long Island to meet him, he was how I learned of the vacuum line faults, and I didn't need any smoke to see the cracks.. 🤯
Some 🤡 at Bentley/VW/Audi engineering came up with those plastic lines over larger stainless steel barb fitting...
