Hello @Stevieshutts ,
I think I followed what you described correctly, if not please tell me, if I did follow correctly, I think that you will still have issues if you did not fix the leaks on the two larger tubes.
Great video thank you. I wish I had seen it when I started thinking about this problem a few weeks ago - answers lots of questions on where all the pipes go.
With regard to the T with the rubber elbow going up to a check valve, which on your car is at the passenger side - on my car it is at the other side and was the fiddly bit. I disconnected the rubber elbow feom the T and connected the elbow to the new pipework I installed, so it does still have a connection to the vac pump. It's not easy to see what I did , but if you look at the first of my pictures above, point 1 shows a piece of the new pipe running through a hole where the heat shield bolts to the body, and into where the rubber elbow is located.
You are right that the larger vacuum hoses may cause me a problem in the future. The top end of the large hoses were split, and I fixed those by cutting the split sections off and fitting rubber hoses - an easy job in the top of the engine room. As for the lower ends of the larger hoses, they are still untouched, but they didn't leak when I smoke tested - fingers crossed that they stay that way.
Running a new pipe under the crossmember and bypassing the lower bulkhead pipe is not a full solution to the vacuum pipe challenge, but from what I have seen and read, it fixes the most common problem, which is the smaller diameter hose running right across the car behind the steering rack. It definitely made a huge difference to the way my car runs and it was definitely much easier than removing the steering rack. Plus of course, I can now access more of the system than I could before.
Update, still going strong and about to service the car and put it away for winter. I’m Glad to see other’s tackle this on their Bentley’s! Great job. I would still like to do a video of the repair but just haven’t found the time or another car to do it on .
