Boot/Trunk Question from Newbie

New member here...2007 GTC I push the door boot/trunk release or the fob, lid raises to the 1/2 point then falls closed. I am suspecting I need to replace the two gas struts. Any experience with sourcing these or if this is even the cause? Thanks in advance!

I suspect so (replace the struts). My GTC power boot lid was weak on opening till I replaced the struts... now it works fine. Here's a video showing how the power boot lid is suppose to work, starting at about 55 seconds into the video:

Oh, and in addition to the options of opening the trunk with either the fob or button on the driver's door controls (next to the fuel cover release), you should be able to simply push the "B" in the middle of the wing badge on the trunk and it should open... with the fob in your pocket (or close vicinity) of-course.

Hello Mr. Hellinger, did you replace the struts yourself, or where did you buy yours?

John:

Yes, I did technically change the boot struts myself, but I doubt I can be much help in the quest for sourcing replacements. The replacements I used on my GTC were laying in the trunk when I purchased/received the vehicle... judging by the seeming screwdriver marks on the ball mounts of the existing struts and the broken ball mount on one of the new struts, I presume somebody before me had the best intentions to change them, but scuttled the mission when it wasn't working out... being one of a few things I've found on the car that was seemingly "work in progress when I got the car". Currently my GTC is locked up in my neighbor's garage (who has a car lift!) and he's gone till after the first... but when he gets back, I'll get some numbers off those replacement boot struts if I can for you.

Thank you Mr. Hellinger I appreciate all your help. I am very mechanically inclined so changing struts is nothing to me.
