Garage door opener frustration - 2019 Bentayga

I did quite a bit of searching and found nothing...

got my wife a 2019 Bentayga, it seems like recent Bentleys have the garage door programming built in the infotainment screen...

when you press either of the 3 garage open buttons, a message pops up on the main screen and asks you to start the programming.

It says "hold remote towards rear view mirror", and I did it at least 10 times... each time ended with error, could not program..

my garage opener is a 2019 Liftmaster which I just recently replaced.

my Tesla learned the new remote within a few seconds.

I too have the 2019 Liftmaster with the Q app feature and I also could not get mine set. Liftmaster upgraded the remote rolling technology to make the app work.

In my case, liftmaster said I needed a Liftmaster repeater to make it work. I haven't purchased one yet. This could be your problem with the Bentley, but I cannot offer that it fixed mine as I haven't tried this:

Hi Mike,

After I replied above, I did a little more "looking" into this repeater. Seems this newest Liftmaster 2.0 security feature is a real mess. They created this repeater because apparently the new rolling technology is only partly compatible with Homelink.

I looked at the reviews on the Liftmaster repeater, it's not that good...hit or miss. I'm pretty convinced your Bentayga is suffering from this common fate. I've decided to probably not try this for mine and just stick with the Liftmaster remote in the car. I've also noticed the older Liftmaster remotes do not work on this 2019 model either.

I did set up MYQ, which is pretty slick. I can open close or check on the door status from anywhere so that's pretty cool, but a shame if you have the buttons built in and cannot use them. In the feedback, it seems a crap shoot which cars work and which do not. Kind of mess made by Liftmaster.

Luck with whatever you try and hope you post back if you try the repeater or find another option.

Steve

Ahhhhh...ok so now that you two just basically lifted my spirits because I take myself as a kind of a technical guy but for the life of me couldn’t get my car to program to my garage door opener. With this glass I have to stick it out the window just to work. Although I don’t have a lift master (I have a Legacy 850) I couldn’t get NONE of my cars to work with it.

The repeater seems like is for much older cars that won’t recognize newer rolling code remotes

I decided to just use the liftmaster remote in the car. I got the MyQ app setup also.

I think it’s a problem with the Bentley. Before I upgraded the garage opener I had a 10 year old chamberlin and it would not program to the Bentley either.

I was able to program all my other cars without any issues, very straight forward.

Yes, I also had a challenge getting my Bentley synced up with the older Liftmaster in our last home, but after a few tries I got it. The actual receiver antenna in the older Bentley models was in an awkward place at the base of the windshield. Everyone always aimed for the overhead buttons.

But I saw in some of the feedbacks on the repeater that even very new model cars were hit or miss connecting directly without the repeater. Some were successful with the repeater, and some others had additional issues after installing the repeater. This has discouraged me from trying it. My Bentley is not a daily driver, so it is not very inconvenient to just keep the Liftmaster clipped on the visor. Only thing I worry about is valeting the car which I do a lot. I try to remember to take the opener with me and not leave it in the car.

Yea I saw some videos on YouTube for Bentley programming but they are all the older models where you hold button 1+3 to clear memory then hold one button to program. Those have antennas at the lower windshield I think.

but the Bentayga is done in the main screen. As soon as you press one of the buttons, the screen asks you if you want to start programming. And it shows a picture asking to point the remote at the rear view mirror

I tried every possible spot around the dash too and with no luck.

Maybe it’s a British technology thing

i gave up

Thanks for the answers in this thread. I’ve encountered a similar problem with the new door that I’ve installed, and I didn’t know what to do.
I think what I am going to do is to ask people from advantagegd.com who installed this door what can help. They are professionals in this area, and I think they know how to program car buttons. I wasn’t home when they installed the doors, and I didn’t manage to ask then. If they do not help me, I will try to do it myself. Still, I cannot be sure about the quality because I am not a professional, and I’m afraid I can just brake something.

I was able to make My 2020 Conti-GT work with most of our openers. It is truly a convoluted process. The manual is a little misleading. Im out of town as I write this will be back home at the end of the week and will post up some information that is possibly helpful.

My car along with my GDO notes are currently in transit from NY to FL, supposed to be here between next Monday and Wednesday. My car is a Gen 3 (2020) while your new car is a 2016 is a Gen 2, I dont know how different the configurations will be. I can try and help both before and after I get my car and notes.

Do you have the manual and if so can you post the page listing the GDO instructions?
What make and model GDO do you have? We have 3 different openers and each required a different process to make work.

I have a Liftmaster opener (rolling code). Car is in for service right now but I think it's on page 36. The manual refers to pointing the remote at the are above the clock on the dash but no joy. Thanks for your help.

Most of the LiftMaster units are rolling codes. There is quite a bit of difference in how different models accept programming and on which frequency they operate. This is determined by the model, the color of the learn / programming button and the type of wired / physical opener you have in the garage. It is important to know what LiftMaster technology you are dealing with before attempting to program.

I have never been able to successfully use the method you described of pointing the hand held wireless LiftMaster opener at the car's receiver. Generally programming will require clearing any previous programming in the car, several steps to get the car ready to program, then pressing the learn button on either the LiftMaster opener mechanism itself or the wired panel in your garage and then pressing the button in the car you want to program for that door opener. I've provided a list of Button Colors below as well as examples of one of the openers I have. When you get the car back, let me know and possibly I will have mine along with my notes and be able to help you get this setup. In the meantime figure out what specific model opener and wired control panel you have.

BTW We have 3 different LiftMaster models / generations built between 2005 and 2018 and all of them require a different process to connect to different vehicles.

This pic shows the opener and the logo on the side indicates it is MY-Q compatible. This means the unit is able to be configured to use LiftMaster My-Q Smartphone App (using the add on 828LM Internet gateway) to operate the door from your smart phone. I find this very useful in letting people in, receiving deliveries when I'm not home and in general knowing when my garage doors are opened or closed.

This pic shows the back panel of the opener with the model and serial number (important) along with the round yellow programming button indicating is Security + 2.0 and can operate on 315 or 390mhz

This pic shows that this opener also has the more recent wired control panel which has a built in learn button allowing you to press "learn" without having to climb up a ladder and push the button on the back of the opener itself.

I have found this is a two step process. I have had a 2012 and now have a 2014 and they both work the same. You have to go through the car "learning" the remote for your door as you listed. After that is done, the garage unit needs to "learn" the signal from the car. So after you program the car with your remote simply program the garage opener from the car. There is a learn/program button (check the manual for your unit) that you press and then within 30 seconds you have to press and hold the programmed button in the car twice and the door should activate. Unless, of course, your sh#t is busted.

Maybe you should go for "Langley Garage Door Installation"
