Darn Pothole!

While driving south on Texas Route 146 last week, struck a pothole - hard - the front of the car really hit hard.. But all seemed OK, so we continued on to our destination for another 30 minutes. We started getting a serious rotten egg smell, but didn't think much of it because 146 winds its way through numerous petro chemical plants. On arival, we found a large bubble in the right front tire and a really strong rotten egg odor when we opened the trunk. On the road and out of time, we had the 2009 Continental GT flatbedded to Post Oak Motorcars, the Houston Bentley dealer (owned by Tillman Fertitta of restaurant, casino and hotel fame). It is the most beautiful dealership I have ever seen and the most helpful people I have ever encountered at an auto dealership. That's the good news. Four new tires, four tire pressure monitors, a four wheel alignment and two batteries later, I forked over $4300 and have my car back. That's the bad news.

Unfortunately, being on the road and on a schedule, we could only get the Pirelli Rosso's and the batteries at the dealer. Tires were down to 4/32, the batteries were original and the tire pressure monitors were original. Good service life, but expensive to replace when you go to the dealer.

I would be putting in a claim with the state for reimbursement.
(That is a state highway right?) Never hurts to make sure.

Ouch indeed. Luckily the tires were worn down at least imagine if they were almost new. Do you have the 20 or 21 inch wheels?

That's typical isn't every thing larger in Texas? Sorry for your road mishap. I would suggest that you might consider filing your claim with a reputable lawyer that has filled similar claims. They probably will just put you off stating that you were not driving alert or with caution. You might check with the Highway Law Enforcement, or local Towing Companies to see if any other reports have been claimed within that area. I hope you took the time to photograph the damaging pothole.
With representation you can then file for attorney fees and additional issues that resulted in your personal inconvenience. You did not mention if your Auto Repair Order reflected the damages were a direct result of the rough Highway and or Pothole.
Lots of Luck

20 inch (2009 had 19 and 20s). Unfortunately, we didn't document anything siince we didn't think there was a problem until we were 30 minutes down the road. Dealer work order shows nothing. The tow truck driver got a full rundown, but I doubt if he passed anything on to the service writer.. On the way out of town, we spotted (and avoided) an even worse section of road at a railway track crossing on the same route.

BTW, "darn pothole" is not an exact quote of my comments at the time.

Not specific to answer your question.

Check with dealer and ensure they don’t report to Carfax. My local dealer did. If shows as “accident” on lovely Carfax.

File a claim with your auto insurance carrier. Simple.

Once one logs a claim with there insurance company they log the claim as an accident at ie Carfax which we also have here in the UK, once that has been logged, if the car ever does on to be sold the dealer will check with with companies like Carfax if the car has been in an accident which then drops the value, a private buyer can also have this checked by paying a small fee for the report ...
Agree. Plus unlikely insurance will pay for new tires, TPMS, and alignment. Lastly is a demerit on insurance for a small claim.

Yea, it’s unfortunate, no easy recourse. Just part of the challenges and expenses we all have with our roads and 19/20 wheels.

I fail to understand what happened to the final inspections & then when it got to the showroom didn't anyone go through the PDI checks ...
What how didn't the dealer do a PDI, they both failed. Any link to it?

You would be surprised how many cars on the showroom floor have little fluids in them. I was told they don’t want any leaks and customers slipping and falling. So they might push them in or have them on jack trolleys. But that’s not a good look on them. They might as well upgrade him to a 2020 at the same cost for his troubles. Bite that bullet.
