New to me Bentley... check engine light

Day 3 of ownership, driving to work this morning, and the dreaded check engine light pops on. Still in the car. Seems to be driving totally fine. But scary and irritating, none the less. Suggestions? 2006 Flying Spur with 33,000 miles.

Good morning Barry,
Oh I could imagine how irritated you must be, I for one would be headed right back to the dealer, this is most likely as case of the seller resetting (clearing) the code or codes prior to showing and delivery, I have seen it many times before, sometimes even on a test drive, you will need a laptop to put Ross-Tech software on and to plug the Ross-Tech cable into, depending on which product you purchase from them if you choose to buy their product.

I had it happen to me back in February, I flew to Tenn to pick up a S600 Brabus only to have the check engine light come on not even half way home, I didn't have the Merc scanning tool at the time, and I forgot my Torque dongle at home, it turned out to be misfires, and a bad SAI motor, 24 spark plugs and 2 coil racks later at $2360.00 for parts and my labor all is good, of course the private seller knew nothing and offered no help and ebay was a joke..

What’s have you ( with innocent intent) been fiddling about with ?
Fuel filler cap needs to be tight and air tight otherwise a low pressure is detected =CEL ( pic shows it full so I know you have handled it )
Same with the oil filler cap
same with the dip stick .

Second line
How wet have you got it ?
The two major ECU for engine management + the main engine fuse / relay box is under the front scuttle LHS .
This area is a bit exposed and susceptible to moisture which can give “ implausible signals “ = CEL

Theres some threads on the scuttle drain .....worth a read .

So whilst I bow to Jonny’s experience and expert knowledge.....it could be something or nothing depending on the answers to my Q,s

You are correct in that I just filled the tank last night. I was certain to make sure the gas cap clicked three times to make sure it was Secure. It has been in the garage and hasn't been washed since I bought it a few days ago, so no new moisture. At an indy shop now for an oil change and to have them listen to the suspension rattle so I'll have them run the codes. Fingers and toes are crossed.

One more question: sitting here waiting for them to take it in and I notice a good bit of water coming down in two spots after I parked it... hoping this is just normal AC water?

Looks like AC water from about under the transmission.
Its a good sign because if theses drains block the foot well carpets get wet .Under the passenger side is box full of relays aching to get wet .One is the starter motor relay .Get that wet , corrode those contacts and burn out the S motor .
Its an engine out job to access the S motor .
I did a thread on drains a while back .......preventative maintenance.

lets hope the CEL is something or nothing .
Another common one is a lamba sensor ...... not expensive to do .

Thanks so much, John. Only day 3 and already you and others on this forum have been more than helpful. It does not go unappreciated. Thank you! I'll post the codes for the CEL as soon as I get them.

First update: he said codes were recently cleared... go figure... ugh. He said code is "too lean code". He said he will print out the exact code number for me.

See, I knew my idea to offer potential buyers of Bentley’s to scan the car for them while they were on a test drive wasn’t crazy!!!

I hope you get it worked out. Ask you indy if they could do a smoke test for you just to get that out of the way. It’s a few threads on here about it.

Do the codes that I posted point in that direction? My Indy just finished up my state inspection and oil change, and he glanced at the codes and cleared them. He told me to wait for the light to come back on and we could diagnose from there. He did not seem too concerned. He said perhaps an oxygen sensor? He works a lot of high-end cars, including a few Bentleys in the past, but he is not exclusively a Bentley Indy so may not be super familiar.

Everything I’ve learned about my car comes from the great ppl on this forum. Look up the P codes and I’m sure they will lean towards one or two symptoms.

Thanks for the message, Rico. A bit disappointed but still honored and thrilled to be able to own such a car. She's a Beauty to look at and in beautiful cosmetic condition. Hoping the check engine light is something minor. On the way back home now after the oil change. He cleared the light and told me to keep an eye on it. So far does not come back on. I have no doubt it will return. When I get home I'll start researching the codes to see if I can find out more. In the meantime, if anyone here has thoughts on the codes that popped up certainly let me know. This forum has been a great education and a great place to meet good people.

[QUOTE=Rico.Adams;4807470]Your welcome & yes driving a Bentley is an experience & hope you do enjoy that beauty.

Well if the lights are cleared then be hopeful it may never come back on, have you posted the codes as I've not seen any on your thread unless I've over looked them.

Glad you're enjoying the forum ... [/QUOTE

Yes, sir. I posted all the codes in photos a few messages up on this very thread. Let me know what you think if you have time. Thanks.
