Power Trunk question

Silly one, probably. How far should the trunk lid open? I'm guessing to vertical?

Can someone remind me links to replacement lift struts?

TIA

Gas struts Boot and Bonnet

2

Trunk pneumatic struts

I replaced all 6 gas struts on my 2008 Flying Spur back in March.
Total cost including new end caps and shipping to me in Spain was £137.
Fitting was super easy, they work to OEM specs, in other word's, perfectly.
Both bonnet and boot lid now close like new again.
The company is SGS Engineering UK Ltd.
The chap to talk with there is Tom Radford, he is very knowledgeable and helpful in every way.
You can call him on : +44 (0)1332 576 850
Hope this helps.
Nigel (from Estepona Spain).

Many thanks! I assume it should open to vertical then?

Yes, well mine does now, opens and closes great, like new!!
The bonnet on mine was the worse of the two and would not stay open without a support. So I ordered a complete set for bonnet and boot at the same time, to be honest, on a car like this, it's a cheap fix........

Hello @CatmanV2 ,
It depends on how far vertical you mean.

See my trunk/boot lid video for full travel of the boot lid.

Thanks, Johnny! That is super helpful. One of the only faults I could find on the car I looked at on Saturday was that the trunk seemed to not open far enough, and sure enough it has about 6" travel where yours has about 1"
If I go ahead, first step will be lubing the hinges. I assume a spray lube will be adequate?
On a side note, does the CTEK cable prevent the trunk from closing all together, or can it be pressed down? My intention was to leave it on the CTEK as I did with my Maserati, but it'll be outside.

TIA!

Hi @CatmanV2 ,
May I ask what year are you looking at, as if 2006 and newer, I would think it would have the power lift and close trunk motor, if the vehicle you are looking at does indeed have power lift, then then motor should lift it all the way to stop, minus that 1 inch of free movement at the end of travel, with the piston struts helping it open.

As to the CTEK cable, sometimes it will shut, but other times I just have to apply the least amount of down force to help it continue to catch, it seems very sensitive to any blockage of gap at closing.

I hope I explained that correctly... 😁

Super, Johnny. Thanks.

It's an 07 (just) GT Speed. Yes it has the power open and close. Just doesn't make it all the way to the top. No biggy. Closes fine

My guess is the struts, but I'll try the lube first (if I buy it!)

Just to close this off: The trunk seems to be opening perfectly!
