ESP light and P symbol

im an owner of a 04 GT with 58K miles. Have had the car for about a year no issue and all of a sudden I get the infamous Park brake with the line through it and the ESP light. I’ve seen that the right rear pb sensor is often the issue, however, these lights come on together after about 15 minutes of driving. Then when I come to a stop the P symbol goes away but the esp light stays lit, then once I take off and go over 20mph the P comes back on display. The park brake works good as it won’t let the car move in gear and I hear both sides engage and disengage. What could be the issue? I’m sure this has been asked multiple times but I am new to this forum so help a man out

Do you have a code reader, having codes would be helpful.

A slowly dying driver's side battery in trunk/ boot, can cause mysterious electrical gremlins. Have a load test done on the battery. No sense in chasing ghosts. Plenty of info on batteries in this forum. Should you need a battery make sure you get an AGM battery.

I only have a regular OBDII scanner not a ABS. Will any scanner that reads abs codes work?

A common failure for the P fault is the parking brake switch. It has a rather bad (weak) design and can cause the short, intermittent failure, if you see that in a VCDS scan.

I just want to contribute this because I had the same P-slash issue, which apparently is common, and may help someone in a future search, maybe not here though.
I don't think the previous owner of my FS used the parking brake on a regular basis. Of course when I got it I wanted to push all the buttons & try everything. Initially no issue. Then the P-slash appeared & wouldn't go away. My Bentley specialist suggested the weather may have something to do with the actuator working properly, since it was rather cold at the time. He suggested I put a portable heater near the rear wheels & let it heat up the underside. It worked. Heater at right rear wheel ran for a few hours, then I worked the switch, no P-slash appeared, very happy. moral of the story: don't use the PB unless absolutely necessary or only during the summer!

Hello Bugsy,
If you have both the "ESP" and the "P" on together, you most likely have a faulty wheel speed sensor, or a faulty circuit to the sensor at either of the 4 wheels.
Do you have a scan, if not, you should get Ross-Tech, with the RT you would scan for faults, but also you would go into measuring blocks to show the speed and or rotation at all 4 wheel speed sensors, that will show you the faulty corner.

Johnny

I have just had the “ESP “ and slashed yellow “P “ lights .The P after 20 mph .
Its been almost sub zero for the past 10 days ( I,am in the N U.K. at the mo ) and last time out was a short trip at dusk , lights on , heated seats both on 5 + CD playing , 3 miles each way to a supermarket click n collect .
I do not think I properly activated my trickle charger ? There was a lot of damp salted roads washing salt under it .

Coincidentally I replaced both temp sensors ( out of boredom + preventative maintenance) .

After 2 days the lights would not “ run off “ so this morning I awoke ready to remove the rear wheels and check the electrical connections and eyeball as much as I can the EPB casings for cracks .
But I thought I would just run my multimeter across the trickle charger pig tail before opening a door 12.67 V .

Opened up and started up and hey presto both lights gone ! Went for a 30 mile run and all ok .
BTW I did cycle the EPB on many occasions during the 2 days of beeping and both motors worked .

So after the 30 mile ( no seats or music or lights on ) the voltage was up 12.8 , presumably alternator doing its stuff .

Interestingly the LHS bat was new last August ( for a 2 month euro trip ) .

So conclusion
Obviously temps sub zero for a few days took its toll of the batt .
Theses cars consumers are heavy users of volts + power .......3 miles trips = net drain .
My 1.5 Ah trickle charger is just that a “ trickle “
The ESP + parking modules must be voltage , extra voltage sensitive............and sing first in cold weather .

Anyhow an uneventful end just basic batt hygiene.

I had read through this thread and had “ have I disturbed a Vac line working on the rear temp sender ? “ = motor out like a guy on another thread who had both lights on as well ?
Or “drenched the ABS module doing the rad sensor “ etc etc .But both EPB s worked , the Vac pump runs normally, idle and power is normal, it’s creamy smooth.

04 with 93 K miles .

Good news, John. If it was a Maserati GT the consensus view would be 'flat battery' (always gives ESP / MSP / ABS warnings) closely followed by ABS sensor failure.

I'm waiting for the extension for my C-Tek to arrive so I can get mine wired in!
