2nd Generation GT water flowing sound
2nd Generation GT water flowing sound
Hi Team,
Have just recently brought a 2011 second gen GT which has only done 20ks with full dealer service history.
The car is mint and drives like a dream no other issues apart from when the car is faced down decending, I hear the sound of water / liquid (quite alot of it) flowing from one area to another.
When I'm driving on a flat surface I haven't noticed this issue.. Reading around on forums people suggest it maybe due to air trapped in the radiator? The previous owner hardly ever drove the vehicle and did about 2000ks per year
Any suggestions highly appreciated..

Hi @Dark Green ,
Luckily inside all dry at this stage.
The sound is coming from the front engine compartment, sounds like behind the dashboard?
Coolant level seems normal
I'm suspecting the drains maybe blocked somewhere, as I only noticed this after using the AC for many hours during a very hot day today. However, I have no clue where to check, is there a manual for this?

You’re not giving us much to go on: such as where does the sound seem to be coming from, but a few first thoughts:
Is the car using or losing coolant?
Have you tried bleeding the coolant?
Next have you checked the scuttle drains, the fuel filler drain, the air con drains and the spoiler drain?
Is there any trace of water ingress into the spare wheel well, or the footwells?

It will be water in air duct through the centre console to rear bulls eyes , due to blocked air con drain pan drains .
Anyhow do all this ...Bentley gt drain hygiene.

Thanks for your responses Dark and John.
I tested for condensation this morning and everything seemed pretty normal - water is dripping underneath the car forming small puddles.
The swooshing / gurgling sound is only present when I'm going downhill, and today the volume of liquid going through sounds less than yesterday (as yesterday the car was driven all day / compared to todays 20min).

You need to alter your quoting, otherwise your responses will be lost.
An excellent illustrated guide to sorting out scuttle drains is here: https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...enance-gt.html
Whether or not that is the immediate problem, you must address this before it bites you.
The aircon drains are situated either side of the transmission tunnel beneath the dash, and if the car has been rarely used then they may well have gummed up. They need to be cleaned (gently) from underneath.

The clue that your problem is the air con drains is whether there's a pool of condensate left under the car when it is stationary with the air con running.

He already has told us, but it's embedded in a quote, so is inconspicuous.
In which case I would suggest that there's water trapped on the bulkhead. The longer the car is driven, the more will evaporate, but that's not the point, the blockage needs removing.
The easiest fix for this is to simply knock out the centre rubber 'duck bill' which results in a larger hole that is unlikely to get blocked.
The easiest way to inspect, and then do the job is with the aid an endoscope.
It's all explained in pages linked to by John and me above.

It wasn't water or blocked drains but rather the water sloshing sound was actually my carbon ceramic brakes.
The car only has done 13k miles, and the brakes haven't really been embedded. Now it explains why the sound is only present under light braking and low speeds.
I was advised to do a few hard stops and just drive the car and with time should go away..
Widening the topic the whole raisin d etre of the drain hygiene posts is “main dealer “ service history with this particular modal is woefully inadequate in accessing the real risk of future problems.
A good clue is the number of posts particularly on FB with folks having difficulty removing the wiper arms , so much so they resort to cutting them off !
Fortunately the AC elbows are easy to get to and poke out with a pipe cleaner .
The other anomaly with theses is the battery , the LHS one in particular. In Ferrari world at main dealers they just look at the date stamp and change then out @36 months .I asked the dealer why once and the reply was ........” so you do not come back with a dash light on and loadsa codes “
In 20 odd years of main dealer Ferrari ownership I have never had to return for anything between annual service.Ok the milage s are smaller but they too are trickle charged , like the Bentley.
This summer having owned the Bentley 4 years i replaced its seemingly functioning LHS batt before a 3000 mile euro trip , because I figured ( thinking Ferrari reliability) it was over due and the car was going to be car parked a lot .......so why wait for inconvenient batt hassle like dropping windows , EML s , navigation issues , boot release issues , fan control module at the rad laying up etc etc etc .
Car performed uneventfully but I did use a solar charger in long stay outside car parks ....just in case .Avoided parking under pine tress etc .
They are great hobby cars for car guys and as they age less park and forget , you have to be forward thinking hands on with them .

Thanks for the reply guys. I had the car checked by Bentley and very surprisingly outcome..

To @Dark Green @AJ1 @Jim Shi .
DG,
It's very clear why AJ asked his questions at the times he did, as just like you had already told Jim, his responses would basically be lost, because @Jim Shi failed to properly give his response in the proper format, instead he answered within the quoted section of the comments to whom he was replying to... I had fixed Jim's response back on 2/20/21, but I too missed all the other responses, I at first only saw the dry interior reply.
SO, as I have had to fix this issue with quite a few members lately, I ask this, if you are going to answer the questions within the quote area, please do so in red print as to separate questions from answers, and ofcourse you will need to add the term "response in red" in the un-quoted field for the minimum text requirement.
I have fixed Jim's number 3 post again to reflect the proper response.
Thank you All.

Let's keep it right
It's unclear why you asked that question in Post #7,
It's clear to me... 😁
when the the OP had already told us in Post #3 that
The response was lost due to improper format, or coloration. 🤔
"The sound is coming from the front engine compartment, sounds like behind the dashboard?".
It's even more unclear why you're still repeating the point...
Because Jim continued answering within the quoted area, and his answer became lost to the reader.. 1🤓
