1st Gen GT Wheel options

I've the stock 19x9 41mm offset wheels on a 2006 GT.

Looking at upgrading to 20s and wanting to stay with the factory offerings, particularly forged models.

Curious, the speed wheels (2009 era) are 20 x 9.5 with a 41 mm offset. So physically 1/2" wider. Same size for the 2010 era supersports wheels. Though I did read somewhere the wheels are staggered, but the ones I've seen for sale all seem to be the same size, so I'm assuming the track width might have increased on the supersports cars themselves, with the hubs 1/2" further out on each side?

As I understand it, because of the added width, I should expect about 1/4" extension on either side from the center of the wheel, since it's the same offset.

Does anyone know if this will have any clearance problems? Anyone "upgraded" to the slightly wider 1st gen super sports/speed wheels on a stock early offset GT? Would spacers be recommended for clearance? (trying to avoid these by getting the right offset)

I do also see there are 20" x 9" bentley wheels that are 35mm offset, as options, but wasn't sure if any of these were forged like (some/all?) of the SS and speed wheels.

I'm sure Jonny will know for sure but I reckon it's unlikely the increased the track of the underlying hardware.

Also pretty sure they are the same size. I know mine are, and, well, AWD....

But happy to be corrected.

Thanks Catman,

Yep, all the 1st gen speed rims I’ve see are matching all around and confirmed by the markings on the inside of the center disc.

Actually the 2 sets of 1st gen super sports rims I did see for sale we’re also a matching set of 4, but I had read somewhere the SS rears were staggered to allow a 1” wider track width on the SS models. The 2 postings I saw were online only and listed all 4 rims under the same size. Neither seller is Bentley specific, so I was wondering if the postings were incorrect or my info was incorrect. Unfortunately, neither has pictures of the back to verify and haven’t yet replied to my inquiries.

If you ping Danny Staples on Facebook, he'll know for sure. Hopefully one of the in house experts will assist on here, but I think it's unlikely the SS is staggered. We shall see!

Many thanks, I’ll check that out. Finding a few more listings, and I think you are correct. Only found one staggered (offsets and widths different front vs rear) set of rims, which look like they are from a 2021.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/29422678085...iABEgLW3_D_BwE

I think I must have read about the newest model somewhere, leading to my confusion.

Just looked on Scuderia (dunno why I didn't think earlier) and they only show one part number for rims up to 2018....

Decided to take a small gamble and picked up some Speed wheels in 20 x 9.5 ET41s as I felt I might be overthinking this a bit, since..

  • The tires coming off with the rims have a sliiiightly larger diameter than the ones that will go on and the width is listed as the same at 10.6" though interestingly the weight handling is higher on the 19s.(2309 lbs vs 1874), This is comparing Michelin PS4S in both sizes. (275x40x19 & 275x35x20)
  • Also, not that it's conclusive proof of anything, but as a data point, there are wheel sellers offering 35 offset 10" wide rims that would have the same clearance issues for this model year.
  • Worst case scenario is that I'll have to get some hub-centric spacers/longer bolts in the mix or sell them on to someone who needs a set. Hopefully the bores, hub shape, etc. are identical. If not, I have seen spacers with different inside/outside configurations for the shape portion for the purposes of converting wheel types, so hopefully that's an option in thin sizes.
Such classic looking wheels, so I hope it works out. Since I just put on new PS4S on the 19s I'll let them wear out first and then put some fresh tires on the 20s and mount the at that time.

Some observations from looking at several rims online, it seems that BBS makes many of the forged ones and have the ACQ mark from the Japanese factory where the forged rims are made. I saw a few oem wheels marked as Ronal (there's a name from the past for any fellow Mercedes 126 guys!) and labeled LMW (which I assume is light metal wheel) but not sure if this is forged. Some of the Mulliner multipiece rims were BBS and marked as forged items also.

I'm assuming different brands? This is not uncommon

Sorry, could have been clearer. Same brand and model (Michelin PS4S), just different tire sizes.. the one coming off is 275 x 40 x 19 105y XL (27.7 diameter x 10.6 width) and going on is 275 x 35 x 20 102y XL (27.6 diameter x 10.6 width)

Ahh, right. Teeny tiny difference.

Given that 40 ratio rubber has been fitted successfully (gives more options) should he clear you really won't have any issues.

Very small, I did some of the math just for fun...

edit. Correction. That should be 2.185758 rotations, not feet. Multiply by the circumference in inches, divided by 12 for feet.

Just got a reply from Danny at servicemybentley.com as follows:

“Hi Sam, it’s always better to match the ET outwards to avoid clearance issues on the chassis but bear in mind the extra 1/2” you’ll gain. (All cars that are designed for the European market have to have 19mm clearance on the arches to allow people to get snow chains on, so the extra 12/13mm should be fine!) 😉”

Thanks again, CatmanV2, for the referral.

Just fyi...

Finally figured out the extra track width on the supersports rear. The rears have a 21mm offset vs 41 in front. This pushes the rears out 20mm wider from the hub.

Below is a PDF of B wheels with the info

https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...KiIJrJ_ovMuKMB

Interesting (when contrasted to Bentley's marketing) that the stock wheels are 1kg lighter than the speed wheels and the supersports wheels are another half kilogram heavier than the speed wheels.

In my particular case it's a break even, this difference will be made up by the larger inside diameter, smaller profile tire weight, which are approximately 2-3lbs lighter. (2lbs since I got AS4s for replacements instead of PS4S, which are 3lbs lighter in 20s)

I don't suppose you have an email address for Danny do you?

He has been super helpful on FaceBook but he hasn't been around lately.
