I am having a issue with my 04s HVAC blend doors, I am only getting partly cold air out of the center drivers side vent and warm air out of the drivers door window side dash vent, they will both turn to warm if I press the temp to warm. not sure if it is a basic setting issue or issue with the motor. What's the best way to get to the motor if I need to replace it. Is it behind the center console?
Hello @V12diablo ,
I assume that you are getting ice cold air out of the passenger side and the rear center vents, if not, please tell us if you have had the refrigerant level checked, or if your remove the plastic covering under the hood at the cowl (CAUTION, do not touch the small line, it may be HOT), is the lager return/suction line for the A/C ice cold and dripping condensation, if yes, then the next step would be a scan with Ross-Tech VCDS for the HVAC, also with RT there is an output test, and another function that cycles all the flaps through their full range, and I believe adaptation, I can check that later today or tomorrow, as I must work on my AC also, it just quit altogether, I have pressure running too high on the high side, and dropping to zero and below on the low side, I believe that I have a clogged restrictor valve in the liquid line.
But back to you, if all is good with your compressor, and pressures, very cold suction line, and nice cold air out of all other vents, and the output test or adaptation fails to clear the issue, then I have bad new if it is infact a bad duct flap control module/motor, you can see most of them in my pictures, the little squares with the green plug sockets, that are positioned all over the HVAC suitcase, and the aluminum dashboard frame that goes over the suitcase, along with the dashboard itself that even covers them more, not to mention even the ductwork in the way...
You could strip the dashboard down as needed to remove and replace the failed items if needed, that is how I did my rebuild, as I had to strip both the brown and red dashboard to make one, I assembled it in the car in pieces, instead of assembling it like the factory as one unit and then installing as one unit, that takes 2 people and machines to lift as shown in a factory video, my installation of piece by piece was so much easier for me, as it was just me, no helpers.

Yes, ac is blowing ice cold out of the vents you mentioned. I will do the output test and adaptation on Monday. It is moving somewhat because I can change it from hot to medium cool. I will update after I run the test . Thanks for the pictures they are very helpful.

That's great news that you have ice cold on the other vent.
Are far as the testing, I recall it being either adaption or basic settings, or both, I just do not recall at this moment, but I did find this online, and by inserting the number "2", it starts the procedure of each flap motor learning it's full open and full closed positions, I did last July when I put the B on the road, I remember it cycling each vent, and other flaps, along with changing the blower speed.
