gt 2005 - parts: new used refubrished
hi guys,
some of new have yearsssssss of gt experience...
and basing on your experience - what is the most optimal parts market from cost point of view?
forget about shipping cost of course... because it differs from the loc where you reside...
usa
canada
europe
uk?
the same from availability /easyness to get?
just curious if there is any pattern?

Hi, we are specialized in carbon ceramic disc refurbishment. Our customers are the ones, who would like to have the original OEM put in new condition. The “problem” with refurbishment is, it all depends on how strongly the disc is used and if the production was done properly. There is always the risk, that refurbished pcs cannot be done successfully. On the other hand, the refurbishing process can expose the quality of the original part. Refurbishment can save you a lot of money, but it is not necessary to be successful.
Sazam,
When I was replacing my front shocks, I went in and created a big spreadsheet of all of the front end components and added a column for pricing from Bentley Parts USA, Flying Spares, Jim Ellis VW (an online dealer here in the US), and Scuderia. I did not look at any used components. What I found was that in comparing all of them, sometimes the pricing would be close but others, either one of them would not carry a part, or the price difference could be up to 40%. What I found was that in most cases, if a part was a direct match to a VW part, the VW pricing was the way to go, sometimes by a very, very wide margin on some parts. One of the callenges is knowing for sure if a cross over part is really the same. (for example a part I am looking at now is the condensor for a 2005 VW Phaeton part 3D0820411G ($179.00) is it the same as the Bentley part 3W0820411E at $715.75 or $984.96 from a third party, or a compressor VW part 3B0820803C at $838.41 or the exact same part 3W0820803 at $1,868.05 or $1,357.48. On the compressor, the ITES I am using shows my vin using the VW part 3B0820803C ) I can't imagine why they would be a different part since making them the same should make sense since both cars share many engine and suspension components.
I think you just need to compare them. I have ordered parts from both the VW and Flying Spares and have had great service and a quick delivery from both. When I replaced my front shocks, I ordered a ton of misc nuts, bolts and various connectors from VW that I would be taking off and it ended up being over 150 pieces, and it took them a while to get them all in since some were not ordered very often, so availability could be a factor. I had time to wait. My recommendation is to compare a few sources and go with one that people have had good luck with. I would definately keep Flying Spares in consideration since they stock almost everything, including a lot others don't.
In relation to used parts, some of the trim etc are not made anymore and used may be the only real option. I know some of the members here have parts for sale and I know that I have heard good things about Johnny Hotspur having parts from his rebuild and people have been very happy with what he has given them. For used, if it is in person, look at the parts to see the condition, if you are going online, you need to either take a chance or go with someone you can trust. Good luck.

thank you so much...
great analysis
is there any xls or a thread maintained by community to find and confirm the fit between vw vs bentley numbering.
even your xls may be a great starting point - and who knows - we may coop to contribute.
i saw many threads where disputes had place and i think even conclusions in some of them that YES given vw number fits the bentley number or not.
so useful data but spread unfortunatelly

I have not found one yet, but from what I gather and have seen is 3WxxxV is Bentley, 3DxxxV is Phaeton, and a 4ExxxV is sometimes an equivalent Audi with the V being the version/iteration of the part. (But I have not researched the Audi part). I am building my own spreadsheets as I go, but the challenge I am finding is I am not sure of the crosses being the same is correct or not and don't want to mislead anyone and I don't have the parts already off of my car so I can get the equivalent from VW and compare. When I did the suspension parts using the VW parts, every one of them or their current version seemed appropriate. I am about to drop the engine on my car and when it is out, I need to replace the radiator and possibly some AC components, but time will be short once the work begins to get the parts in so the mechanic can switch them out. (Radiator, pulley's, condenser and or compressor, starter, oxygen sensors and water pump o ring and the other items to do when the engine is out) I will see what I can determine is a match on these components.

anyway thank you for your investigation you did so far and shared!!!
I may share the spreadsheet or cross at somepoint in the future. I just need to get it cleaned up and looking good.

I would like to add my knowledge of what worked and what didn't, so I think if we can get together the information, then I can make a sticky, BUT, my issue is, that I would have to read back through all prior posts/threads to find the exact numbers, but I can say from memory the following, and it will be with two different scenarios having to do with my A8L W12 and my GT, to explain how and why certain items don't cross.
Now my knowledge on this mostly has to do with the electronics side, not so much as to suspension parts, except for the front brake rotors, calipers, wheel bearing hubs, CV joint axles, transmission output shafts, wheel speed sensors, struts, alternator, VVT solenoids, etc.
The front brake rotors, calipers, pads, wheel bearing hubs, do not cross to the Phaeton or the A8L 4.2 or the 6.0 W12, as our front rotors are larger, the CV joint axles from a A8 will fit as for as fitment to install, but the A8L has smaller diameter axle shafts than our twin turbo vehicles do, the output shafts of the transmission do cross between the A8L and the Bentley, I took the output shaft/flange from a spare 05 Bentley transmission to use on my 05 A8L W12 when I almost hit a deer and went off the edge of the road, ripping the front passenger tire/wheel to it's furthest and past it's turning point, ripping the whole axle CV joint in half and then ripping the assembly and the output shaft out of the transmission, ruining the splines on said output shaft, the output shafts measured identical to each other, the wheel speed sensor do cross to and from the A8 and my GT, I have used both rear wheel speed sensors from my spare complete Bentley GT sub-frame on my A8L, placing one in the front, the other in the rear on the A8L, the struts do not cross either A8 or Pheaton, from what I have gathered information wise, ours are larger than both, the alternator from the A8L W12 or even the 4.2 do not cross, I had to purchase an alternator for my A8L W12, eventhough I had 3 or more Bentley W12 alternators on the shelf, the main power stud was in a different location for the Audi W12, I may have been able to rig something up, but it was not worth the possibility of shorting to the engine, the VVT solenoids will cross on the 05 A8L W12 and the 04-07 B W12.
In my Audi A8L W12 I have used control modules from other audi or vw models, or newer versions of certain modules and their revisions, being that the A8L has a fiber optic loop throughout the vehicle that mostly all of it's modules connect to, as do some other Audi models, I was able to install a RVC control module, camera, and the housing in the bootlid from a Q7, to my A8L, I was also able to use the MMI music interface from an other model in the A8L, but neither of these would work in the Bentley, as the Bentley only uses fiber optic between the Infotainment head unit and it's NAV disc drive, there is no other fiber optic in the Bentley GT's for the 2004 to 2010 that I have seen, I was also able to upgrade the PDC module in the A8L to newer versions from another model, but this is proving to be an issue with my GT as to upgrading the PDC module to allow proper graphics for the 2010 Infotainment head unit I installed, the 2006 PDC module worked fine with the beeping and all sensors in the front and rear bumpers, but the newer revision eventhough I wired it correctly, is given faults as to the sensors in the bumpers, I read that possibly the sensors themselves changed also, still working on that...
As to seat control modules from the Phaeton to the GT, that is a no go as proven by a fellow 6speedonline member, he purchased and installed same to only have them not work, or operate in wrong manner, switching and movements where backwards IIRC, and as to the Phaeton being a four door gave the front seat modules issues for not seeing the rear power seats, as obviously the GT doesn't have them, as to them working on the Spur, I wouldn't waste my money testing, as used parts have come down a bit, as to the A8L, the seat CM are totally of a different design and plug layout.
The front body control module from the Pheaton didn't work for me in the GT, neither did the drivers door control module, and just a note, the Bentley 2004/05 window control modules/motors do not mount properly on the 06 and up, better said, the 06 Bentley GT window cm/motors would not mount to the inner panels of my 05 body, so I swapped the complete innards of the rear quarters and doors from the 06 to my 05.
The satellite radio control module does not swap from the A8 to the Bentley GT, as the A8's SAT module has fiber optic connection.
The Bentley GT and the A8L RVC CM do not cross as the A8 has 3 fakra plug sockets, vs 1 for the Bentley GT, the Bentley GT inputs it's video from the camera by way of the gray fakra socket on the module, and outputs it's video to the Infotainment head unit by way of wiring in the 37 pin plug on said module, whereas the A8 with it's 3 fakra sockets, takes the same video in by way of the gray socket, but outputs it's video by way of the green fakra cable, which in turn runs to the front of the vehicle and feeds into the Audi MMI control heads FBAS socket, the Bentley doesn't have this MMI CH module, nor does it have a separate CAN-BUS CH module as the A8, as again, the A8 has a fiber optic CAN-BUS CH module, whereas ours is built in to the Instrument cluster and other items.
The Phaeton and Bentley's battery CM do cross, as the not only have the same part numbers, but they each have the same HW SW numbers exactly, that is the main reason some other item will not function properly, they may have the same main Parr number, maybe with a different revision letter, but also the inner HW and SW numbers matter, as, as I think as I write this, I think it was @Lars_Tempest that purchased a seat control module that was either for a Spur vs GT or RHD vs LHD, and ran into issues, I believe that it had to do with SW coding, and or revision prefix, I will look back on this for proper outcome.
Also the Phaeton and Bentley parallel solenoid cross.
That's it for now, I will add more later.
How do we want to do this, who wants to start a thread that I will make a sticky, do we use this one, and I clean my writing up, or do we start a new thread, we're everyone contributes, but we, meaning the person that starts it, and myself will have access to edit it, this way, this first post can be continuously updated to add all information posted below it, this way all information is right up top instead of scrolling all the way through conversations and information, what do you all think ?

i would add a google sheet with access for anyone "with the link" with colums like
- category (electric, body exterior, body interior, suspencion, engine, etc)
- bentley part number
- replacement (non bentley) part number
- confirmation (confirmed, not confirmed)
- comment - just to say anything - what car year model version lhd rhd etc anything which may be hepful - maybe some mod needed - eg. you need to remove an unnecessary plate or smth
- link to product - this can be used in case of some aftermarket parts - direct link to producer site)
- who provided - nick of the person who provided this info - may be useful in case of further question
and we can start putting the data in
we can also add 2nd tab with general opinions like yours - eg. front suspension does not fit from a8l etc

Hi Guys,
Some comments about stickies:
Stickies can be useful, easy to use, or they can be a total mess and impossible to use. To be useful, stickies need organization; namely catagories and easy to access information without reading through entire threads.
I want to show a couple of examples on another (non-competing) IB forum:
Here is a sticky started to describe "problems" owners are reporting with their cars. It had good intentions but has become completely useless as information has become old/outdated, or repeated over and over with differing results. It is presently up to 2537 replies. It would take hours to read through this and you might not find an issue for which you began the search.
C8 problems - CorvetteForum - Chevrolet Corvette Forum Discussion
Here is another sticky very well done. This moderator organized a number of different documents and posts with categories/subject matter, etc. Very easy to use, very easy to go right to the subject in which you're interested. This thread is only 39 replies, but you only need the first post to find your topic.

I think whoever stars the sticky should have a good record of visiting the site.
Its why I could never be a moderator on any forums as I dont visit the internet enough.
I like the idea of a sticky and personally (if Johnny is willing) to leave it eave you him.
Yout knowledge Johnny of our cars is without doubt huge I think I would better trust info posted by your self as I know you do testing and cross referancing .
But either way its a great idea.

Johnny,
I have a cross reference spreadsheet that I have started and I will clean it up in a day or two and send it directly to you to look at it and give your thoughts. I will also describe how I arrived at some of the cross referenced/superseded parts etc. Mainly relying on VW to assist with that when I plug in one part number and it returns the number that replaces it. Assuming I get my car back on the road again, as I go through the different parts needing repairs, I have been creating a spreadsheet to handle all of the associated parts with that area. Then searching up the ones I need and adding detail into it.

Hello All,
I agree, I see both sides of this, and the issue described by BWings is exactly why I never made a sticky of my own referring to parts, if this is done, it has to be 100% understood that all information gathered throughout numerous posts of said sticky would be placed into the first post, this way all information is right at the top, so, whom ever starts the cross reference thread, they will be responsible to transfer accurately said information to the top, all post should remain to give credit to said person posting said information.
I hope that I am making sense here.
If someone besides myself starts the thread, then that gives us two people that would have authority to edit said thread, not just me, if I start it.

Hi Johnny / all,
Sorry I didn't see this before now.. you are right.. from the thread: this seat module issue ... So we know the control module was at fault, and the Phaeton module Phaeton 3D0959760"C"/00R unit is not plug and play. Bentley dealer here says the Phaeton module would work in a Flying Spur but NOT in a GT/GTC because the functions are different. They claimed the module could not be re-programmed. So the seat went back and forth, but would not go up (lift) with the Phaeton module. So now the seat is stuck in lowest position. So I decided to remove the module and replace with original (3W0959760A ..3/06)..
In the end I got the dealer to fit the new Bentley part. The Phaeton unit is still in my garage somewhere, and allegedly should work in a Flying Spur.. can't guarantee that but makes sense.
By the way (off topic) do anyone know if the lowbeam lights on a RHD UK 2006 GT are easily switchable, that is, the dip pattern can be switched to the opposite dip for Continental Europe driving on the righthand side of road..?
The idea of cross reference sheet would be super helpful to a lot of people.
