I would say that it is time to install the new H8 battery, the link you posted shows the correct battery.

What is the age and brand of the existing H8 in the vehicle ?

Johnny
Honestly, im not sure - as the car is new to me 2-3 months. I didnt recall seeig a batttery replacement in the set of records I got one of the 2 prior owners.

The brand is VARTA - so I think it may be OEM. We had tested it before, as I had some weird issues, and my indy wanted to eliminate the battery as an issue.

It actually looks like a pretty easy job at this point. Since the starter battery is still good, do i need to worry about the car losing its settings etc? I should leave that one connected correct?

thx

Good morning @ttpopo ,
As to losing any settings, not really, I have disconnected my batteries several times without issue, the only issue I ever have is resetting the window stops on the GT, but that is because it is a GT, as a GT drops both the door glass and the rear quarter glass in unison as either door is opened, as the GT has no door frame for the door glass, nor any pillar for the quarter glass, so the glass needs to drop for clearance of the gasket/seal, whereas the FS door glass has a frame, so no need to drop, nor have I ever lost any presets of the Infotainment head unit.

Some have said the they have had to reset the seats, or steering column, but that is simply moving the seats or column to each of their furthest positions each way, when the item is being moved to it's furthest point, you just keep holding the button for say 2-3 seconds, this sets the point in memory by the resistance.

If this really concerns you, you could hook your battery charger up to the two cables of the battery that you are removing prior to removing it, my CTEK 7002 has an option just for that reason, it is labeled "supply".

Johnny

Ok, I got the H8 battery replaced. It actually wasn't that hard once the trunk decided to release the tension and open itself up all the way. i think the batteries were ORIGINAL - as they had the VW instruction booklet right next to it still. I have heard many horror stories about the battery replacement, but honestly - it wasn't too bad. Perhaps the horror stories reduced my expectations, so the actual 300 minutes it took was no biggie. i think the hardest part is getting the trunk open! I didin't take the seat out, I used a bamboo stick and was abel to pull the emergency release inside the trunk. They should really just have a cable tucked in the seats though...but that would sooooo Maserati lol.

The car started right up and the key fob still works. Trunk opened and closed per normal. The only lights have are the jack mode and ESR - which I assume will go away once I drive it. I'm still waiting on getting my fixed OEM infotainment screen back. Once i pop that in, I'll take for a spin. Thanks for all of your help @Johnny Hotspur GT
