Is my battery tender dead? It just keeps going 'click click' every few seconds and doesn’t leave position 2. I connect it to the car, press the reset butt, but this is what keeps happening.

Here's a short video of how it's acting if the attachment doesn't work: https://streamable.com/lgvcee

981WC,

One of my battery maintainers does that every now and then also. Mine is not the Bentley version, but the CTEK.7002 which seems to be the equivalent version. When mine does it, I disconnect it from the car and the outlet for a few hours and also drive the car some. This usually "resets" the maintainer it goes back to normal. Sometimes it takes a couple of rounds of doing this. I also have two of these hooked up, one per battery and switch them up. Sometimes it takes a couple of times, but it's always gone back to normal.

I've used CTEK chargers since 1990's, I think I have five or six now and unfortunately I'm very familiar with their quirks. By far the most common cause for unexplained behavior, lights blinking back and forth, charging being interrupted or not starting at all is a bad connection to the battery. This can be caused by oxidation of the connectors or heat damage. I just replaced a burnt plug on one, after weeks of wondering why the LEDs keep switching between empty/half/full and batteries aren't charged even overnight.

Lifetime warranty too. I had one fail once so I called them & they sent a replacement. All I had to do was email a picture showing that I cut the cables off flush to the unit.

I think it was my magnetic port on the car. One of the contact points looked melted. So I just bought a new part and replaced it myself. Got the part for $150 including shipping from Flying Spares out of the UK. My local dealer wanted $350 for just the part and another $350 to install it. It's a pretty quick install, but those 6 clips holding on the liftgate liner really are a SOB.

For those looking for where to buy the connector parts at the best price, look at DigiKey. Be sure to buy the 12volt versions, not 24volts.

Oh wow! I could have just replaced the head for only $30? Amazing! Wish I knew sooner. And here I was feeling good about myself for spending $150 when the dealership wanted $750 (with tax).

Well, $37 with shipping. But yeah, no need to go to the dealer or auto parts places who mark them up 400+%.
