@scrinja ,
I am not sure what happened, but I see that you have 5 different versions of this post, meaning 4 edits after first posting, I will say, I saw it when you first posted it, and it all looked fine, it was as it was typed out or copied and pasted, now, it appears to be a screenshot attachment, either way, all information is there, unless something else is missing.
@Johnny Hotspur GT sorry Johnny im useless at the tech stuff on posting .. I kept trying to post hence the 4/5 times it just kept on coming up all black on my PC for some reason !
Whilst on the Battery subject ... The manual States when jump starting... Put the Pos to Positive on the Starter Battery ... Put the Neg on the Negative on the House Battery ...This then starts the car for you .. Bentleys way
I use this method to trickle charge the batterys and both of them appear to be doing just fine ...anyone else doing this ?
If the batterys are independant as alot reckon on here that they are... How come the jump starting technique as described in the Bentley Manual starts the car ?
Im useing a 10 year old Accumate 6volt 12volt Battery Optimiser Charger for motorcycles and Classic Cars
Hello @scrinja ,
To be honest, that whole battery change out write-up is blown out of proportion, it's not that hard, and the which cable first off last on, well, just take the negatives off first, I will usually disconnect the starter battery negatives first, but to be honest, I had the batteries on and off so many times during my rebuild rebuild, that I did either side by itself, while leaving the other connected, just as when I changed out my house battery again, and I have never had an issue.
I will say that some have gone too far in my opinion, as to which cables to remove, some have removed all of the large cable going to the mega fuses and bus-bar on the house battery's pos side, that is not needed, I simply remove the 3 torx screws holding the fuse/relay-box above the house battery, then move it to the side, that allows for more room to lift the battery up and out, so after moving to fuse/relay
one has more room to remove the positive post bus-bar assembly, but to be safe, just disconnect both negatives if you are worried about shorting any positive piece to the body, I usually have plenty of towels to rest items on, therefore keeping them from making contact...
As to your question of the Bentley description of the proper procedure to jump start the vehicle, I think that their splitting of the positive and negative jumpers to the right and left is just a safety issue with them, because, it doesn't matter where you hook the negative cable, just as you see with your battery charger, as both batteries only have a short negative cable from each negative post on each battery, to the body of the vehicle were they mount to a body post in each of the boot, you could put the negative on any portion of the body and the positive to the starter battery or house battery positive and the vehicle would receive power from the jumper, or charger.
As to the charger being hooked to the starter battery, and charger both the starter and house batteries together, I am not so sure, unless your parallel solenoid switch is engaged, or something else is at play, plus, the starter battery is a liquid and the house is a AGM, therefore a different type charge for each.
@Johnny Hotspur GT Hi Johnny thanks for the clarification on my battery post ..as you know im a newbie on the forum and also to working on the Bentley that i have just landed myself with in a fit of madness I do like it now ive done abit of work on putting all the center console as it should have been ! ie the clock now ticks after the surround and glass fell into my lap !
I was abit concerned when i read on various platforms how you have to reset all the windows,the steering has to be centered ,calibration.and also faultcodes coming up on the dash i just though Jesus wtf is going to go on there ..Hence my post ..Not knowing i thought i had better put it out there and ask as i have no RossTech at the moment to do all that stuff
As to my way of charging if you can jump them that way you can charge them that way ... I do check them and both are receiving pulses from the conditioner and seem fine..for the time being and are green lighted time will tell on that one !
Could you confirm Johnny for me about all the windows steering fault codes etc if its ok to just carry on and do it or will there be issues ?
One thing i would also like to ask of you Johnny is could you tell me how to remove the two rear side panels in the boot the ones next to both front battery compartments
Thanks in advance...Johnny
