Are the front control arms of the Phaeton and Bentley the same?

Hi everyone,

I was at the vehicle inspection in germany today (MOT test in UK). During the inspection, it was found that the seat belt does not retract properly on its own, and that there is excessive play in the front axle, meaning the front control arms most likely need to be replaced.

Given the age and mileage of the vehicle, I was considering ordering a complete front control arm kit, as I would like to carry out the wheel alignment only once.

Most of the Volkswagen Phaeton suspension components should be largely identical, but I’m not entirely sure if this is actually the case. Some of the parts have part numbers starting with “3W”, which makes me a bit uncertain.

Has anyone here ever ordered a complete control arm set and can confirm whether the parts are a direct 1:1 fit?

Additionally, what would be the correct way to fix the issue with the seat belt retractor, as the belt no longer retracts smoothly by itself?

Many thanks in advance for your help.

The problem is usually only the bushings (bushes) that are pressed into the control arms.

Rather than spending thousands on complete control arms I purchased the control arm bushing kit on Flying spares for around $450 US.

The shop was able to replace just the bushes for 2 hours labour. Add additional charge for 4-wheel alignment. What one shop quoted me at $5000, the other dis for only $1200, plus the cost of the bushing kit that I bought directly from Flying Spares.

Here's my recent discussion here ;

My car now drives like a brand new vehicle - the improvement in handling is remarkable.

Good luck.
