E46 M3 or 996?

I've been kicking this idea around for awhile and it's been killing me!

In a year or so I'm going to buy some crazy car that I don't need and I initially wanted a 996TT but I think it'd be more 'sensible' to get a 996 of sorts. But I also love the E46 M3, especially the COMP. Pack. I posted this in here thinking maybe I'd get an impartial view from M3 owners and P-Car guys alike.

BTW, my current daily drive is an 08 VW Rabbit for scurrying through the city! (Plan to keep this for awhile/drive to work/etc).

What do you guys think?

Considering that in a year one might be going for 55k? What's maint. compared to a normal 996, though?

I drove a few stock 6 speed e46 m3, and have to say 996 is a better car. BMW maint. is still a bit cheaper compared to Porsche.

I'm sure the 996 is better, it's a more expensive car and as much of a daily driver as the BMW. How much more are operating costs for a 996 than the M3?

You already have that VW for a daily driver. Get something more special like the 996TT.

I had the M3 before, and now a 996TT. I use both as my daily.

I will say for daily, M3 will be more comfortable + nicer interior + more spacious + less road noise

Cost of operating both is similar, but my vote will still be for 996TT, who can resist one with the current low market price

996TT is a far superior car to the E46 m3 imo. However, if it's a toss up between the non-turbo 996 and an e46 m3, I'd be more inclined to at least consider the M car.

For a dd hard to beat the M3...but you already have a daily. Get a 996TT and mod it. Best bang for the buck fast car hands down, right now. Trying to make an M3 really fast (guy who built my M3 spent over 100K) is expensive.
