no more N/A M Engines

The future engines will be loaded with turbos!
That`s SO freakin awesome!

I love turbo engines...the instant rush of power and the huge potential to increase the performance by modding the sh*t out of it

Cant help but feel that the buyers of the latest M3s really got shafted. First off, the 4 Door M3 gets a refresh after 1/2 year, then the big shift for all the engines to become turbos. As a former M driver, I'm glad I've moved on....

I guess the engineers in BMW M division got tired of the engineers in the 335i division talking smack, and not being able to do anything about it.

We have a winner. When a lightly modded 335 can challenge the new M3, we have an issue

BMW ///M you are dead to me! I wonder if the move to turbos will mean that ITBs will also disappear??

I think the fact that the first ///M car getting the turbo engine is the X6 SAV sums up the whole department perfectly. ///M cars are amazing, but there is no longer any real differentiation from the competition (AMG, Lexus F, Audi S.RS, etc). They make great summer blockbuster cars (ok for everyone), but no longer the enthusiast make anymore.

NA engines FTW!!!!!!!!!

The inline-6 turbos are GREAT engines, don't get me wrong. ...but any kid can slap a turbo on his civic/neon and make 400+ hp.

I think that's the heart of it. BMW isn't even using the "ultimate driving machine" tagline anymore...

I love naturally aspirated motors. You can tell by my signature.
My E60 M5 is the most exciting engine for me though granted the GT3 is dynamic.
The problem w/ NA engines is the struggle to gain aftermarket hp.
With these cars you drop a bundle and maybe gain a few ponies.

My M5 after doing SS headers, ECU remap, Evosport pulley, Dinan TB's (useless mod), ASR CAI's, ASR free flow exhaust and dropping big bucks the motor went from 408 rwhp stock to 470 rwhp modded.
The car also has an ASR nitrous set up but that will not be factored in.

Now the point is: A TT motor will allow hugh range of aftermarket mod adjustments for infinitely less money. One can gain hugh hp gains from ECU remapping.
The TT motor will bring much greater torque than with the NA motor.

We all know of the Dinan stroker motor remaining NA but the costs are hugh ($50K). Worst yet, it has recently coming out that the Dinan stroker is not delivering the claimed power. We will see.

I welcome the TT era for the ///M cars. It would be nice if they made more bhp from factory. A V8 TT motor making 500 bhp is marginal but 516 lb/ft torque is good.

We will all see what BMW ///M division comes out with.

This is exactly why instead of dropping 25k for a HPF turbo kit for my e46 M3, I sold it and got a 996TT.

Hey Flash allow me to say that the HPF turbo motors are no slouches.
650 rwhp can sure take care of business even against a 996 TT or GT2.
I mean buy a '06 E46 M3 and do a motor built by HPF's and that will challenge.
Good luck with the Porsche.

Oh I hear ya. I was and am sold on their kits. Awesome power. But at the end of the day I decided I did not want to put 25k into a 25k car - from a value retention standpoint. Although now, both cars are getting hammered in value/price!

I was getting close to doing a stage 2 kit with methanol - about 625rwhp. I just felt more comfortable going with a turbo platform and upgrading that. i.e. low compression pistons, etc.

I do miss my e46 though. So much better than the new version.

Those Stage 3 and 4 HPF cars are killer! You should do one.
