335xi vs. S4
335xi vs. S4
So I'm pretty new to the whole Euro car scene and don't know what would be better for my money. I'm lookin at the '07 335xi & '07 S4 as they both fit into my $30,000 -$35,000 price range. Can someone help me out and let me know which is better in what? Thanks!
it depends on what you are looking for
modding and maybe going on track with the car or just use it as a daily driver?
The BMW may also be better when it comes to handling.
Did you test drive the cars yet?
I want it to be a daily driver that is occasionally tracked. I have a pretty dense school schedule so i wouldn't have as much time to as i would like. Mods will definitely happen as well. I haven't had the chance to test drive em yet. I'm surprisingly having a hard time finding the xi sedan in manual out here. Any points to be made on why the 335 is better?
+100 335xi will stomp an S4 in every category period.... BMW all the way/
- Interior quality - BMW (The Audi uses faux aluminum - WTF?)
- Residual value - BMW (On the other hand, BMW rapes you for options)
- Steering feel - BMW all the way. (Audi's steering by wire is disconcerting and numb).
- Performance - BMW (as stated above)
- Exterior Fit/Finish - Tie
- Technology - BMW (new iDrive is (believe it) great, real time traffic, bluetooth).

335i all the time, though the last s4 is said to be a blast. anyway, avoid run flats on the bmw. instead of going for any optional big wheels from bmw, just let the standard wheels alone and than on the after market get some proper wheels and some proper tires. benefits to ride and hnadling are huge
We just went through this a month ago - comparing 09's:

Sorry disagree

Interior quality - Audi will win against BMW everytime
Performance - Audi has more power and torque without any mods
Handling - probably a wash.
Watch the Top Gear episode with the S4 against the e36 M3. The Audi beat the M3 around a dry track.
I have driven a 335ci for an extensive period of time, and while it was alright...there was nothing really special about it. It felt kinda cheap, but a decent car if you're using it to commute or as a daily.
Well,...
find a way to test drive a JB3 or Procede v3 335i and all doubts about the 335i are gone - believe me.
As you stated that you want to mod the car, you`ll be blown away by what some software(among with a small computer),an exhaust and an intake can get you
Find a car with a nice extended leather Interior and you`ll be just fine

You are all crazy!! the S4 interior is way nicer than the BMW. Quattro blows up the X drive no comparison. The 335 smokes the S4 in modding but he said a daily driver. I would take the S4 for the DD if I wanted to modd the crap out of a 335 i would rather buy a 996 TT.

That's because the S4 isn't the car to place against the 335. Consider the technological time difference between the two cars and this becomes even more absurd.
BMW doesn't beat Audi on everything. It's your opinion and nothing much more. Audi brings in better pricing and more fuel efficient cars, with arguably the nicest interiors. Quattro is an industry standard nobody has managed to "beat". Audi also has a better safety record and lastly take Audi MMI vs iDrive.
If you want to talk mods, you can put a 1999 1000hp Civic up against your new M3 and it will own it. That argument is getting really old.
To quote a BMW fan magazine, Car and Driver:
Audi S5
BMW 335i
Now I'll be the last one to tell you that BMW is garbage. Great cars and I am considering getting rid of my current A4 for a 2008 M3, but the fanboi stuff gets old. You'd probably find yourself surprised at how many times BMW places "second" in comparisons to Audi in German car magazines.
Here's a good link to a BMW vs Audi shootout. AutoBild BMW wins 6 to 3
The test included a comparison between an M5 and S6 (joke, 550 vs S6 is more appropriate) and the old S4 vs the new 335i (arguably a better car). The new S4 will provide a better comparison to the current 335i and should drive both car makers to make even more efficient engines out.
That's all I got. Maybe you can use Babbelfish to translate the German article unless you speak the language.
And to the OP, get the 335xi. It's a better car than the S4. If you can wait though, you may want to look around for a used S5. At any rate, you cannot go wrong between any of those cars.

That performance is a testament to the power of the V-8, the short gearing of the powertrain (75 mph in sixth gear has the engine spinning at 3000 rpm), and the quick shifting of the six-speed manual transmission.

concerning the interior,I have to say that it really is a matter of individual taste if you prefer BMW or Audi.
