People keep referring to this thing as 'little'... But it looks like an X6 next to an E30. Sure it is smaller than an M3, but I wouldn't call it 'little' as a good thing. How much does this 'little' thing weigh?
My stock 135i has a pretty healthy exhaust note and the BMW performance exhaust is even throatier.. I think it will sound just fine.
Because technology is heavy, 5-600 pounds heavier then an E30 seems light considering all of the safety and wiring that goes into a modern car. Did E30's even have a drivers side air bag?
People say I have a heavy car - but it is only about the same margin heavier than a 335i, as the 335i is over the M1 (or whatever it is going to be called). My car comes standard with EVERYTHING, so there is no weight savings.
My point is, I guess, if BMW went out of their way to make a smaller car - why didn't they go out of their way to make that small size an advantage, instead of defeating one of the greatest assets of the chassis (by putting all of the weight back on)?
I mean - there is SO much potential for this car to be an outright BEAST. Why not capitalize on it?

I would love to see what one weighs once someone strips it, but i am not sure I could justify the extra cost as a track car vs. stripping a standard 135i with the same N54 engine.
I will say that having driven the 335i and 135i (that i eventually purchased) back to back, the 135i seems much more raw and nimble (I'd compare it more with an E46.) The smaller chassis advantage isn't totally lost.
I completely agree, but ultimately realized the that second they lighten the car, the yuppies will complain that their quiet/luxurious BMW was compromised... These are the buyers that pad BMW's wallets, as I don't feel the "enthusiasts" make up enough of the market.

Maybe I'm selfish. Those non-enthusiasts can get a 135i, and have all the fun they can handle... But give us back our lightened, nimble, balanced car.
But I like your thinking, at least (like the Boxster spyder,) make the radio and A/C delete optional.
