If anyway says again at M arketing that this car was made in the mold of the E30 M3 I am going to scream. The E30 M3 did not turn into a fat , big belly middle aged man who still thinks he has it.

Ofcourse you don't get the interior, body kit and ///M prestige, but the ///M purists will tell you that you don't own a real ///M anyways. Yet this would walk all over a stock M3 on the track...
one you add all that up, you'll end up with a much higher bill than just buying a 1M (if you can find one..) and lose 90% of the money you invested when you sell it.

I'm speaking from experience - I own a 135i and started buying all of these parts mentioned. Would have still been half the cost of a 1M when you use the current market value of my BARELY used 135i. If I were in the market for a new 135i, and intended to do all of those mods - then yes it would make much more sense to get the 1M. I still don't think that the 1M will hold value like ///M cars of the past though.

Alas, I sold my 135i yesterday and on my way to a 911 turbo next.

LOL nice.

Well it is the lightest car in the BMW lineup with the performance to back it up...

Its pure marketing as you say. This 1M will be fantastic, but will not earn the pedigree that the original M3 did.
