How's the gas issue treating you m5 guys?

Hey guys,
So we're getting closer to getting a new car and I'm sort of annoyed at bmw for this gas issue I've seen on the m5. According to m5 board and other bmw forums, the tank is so small people are getting ridiculous mileage out of a tank. Like 200 miles or so. I know a few of you guys have em so how has the experience been goign for you? What kind of mpg and miles have you been getting out of your m5s?
Any info would be greatly appreciated
Oz

why would you keep it in P400 mode? seems like a waste.

I get about 12mpg and 220ish mi/tank in LA driving. When I drive down to San Diego (120 mile highway drive) i get about 16mpg.

I really couldn't care less about gas milage, but I do wish the range were a bit longer.

I thought P500 was locked out until the 1200 mile service.

P500 doesn't change my mileage. Only my driving does. I get around 13 mpg in city driving, but if I get on it, it goes down fast!

The range kind of blows, but it doesn't ruin the car for me. It's just one of it's characteristics that make it 'different'.

There are other issues with increasing range. This kind of reminds me of my 1999 Suburban 4WD. I filled up with 40-44 gallons per fill. It doesn't sound like a big deal but get this. One time I had to pick up some bottled water for something and I actually had 10 of the big 5 gallon Sparkletts water bottles in the back of the Suburban. I had to fold down the 3rd seat and they nearly filled the rear cargo area. It was quite a sight to think that the car was actually using that much gas per fillup and I was only getting about 9-10 mpg. Luckily times have changed and now my 2004 Denali XL gets a healthy 11-12 mpg.

Miles per gallon isnt an issue at all. Its the range thats pissing me off. Enough to reconsider us not getting the car... Maybe wait for a cls63 or the s550

Mileage sucks in city or mixed, but is quite good on the highway. I've made three high speed trips between Burlington and Florida in the last month and have achieved 22.5 (big) mpg driving quite fast.
