M5 Launching...

Is there any secret to launching this thing?

I turn the traction off... put it in M... put it in 1st... set the aggressiveness thing up the the 7th bar that you see when you turn the traction off and floor it... and it takes off rather "boringly".

What have I missed this is my first SMG car.

Seth.

If you're M-mode is set right. your tires should've gone up in smokes when you did that.

In M mode... traction control off... all the bars lit up on the shift thing... mash the gas pedal and it kinda limps off then goes... nothing exciting about it at all... So there is no trick to this? I thought maybe I had to hold the brake down and floor it or something...

Perhaps you arent in p500 mode. Or you arent stepping on the gas enough.

When my e55 was stock, even with sticky sticky ps2's.... I would shut off the traction control and give it maybe 1/4 gas and the car got sideways.

The powers there, try it again

I do not jest here gentlemen! It's fast after it starts moving... but it doesn't leap out of the hole.

Put it in M
Put it in First.
Turn of Traction Control.
Make sure it's on the 6th or 7th bar (whichever it is) for aggressiveness
Mash gas pedel to floor.

Thats it right? I haven't missed anything?

Because I've done this a few times without any hardcore launch.

Thanks,
Seth.

Isn't there a launch mode? Where you can rev up the engine a little and drop the clutch?

are you trying to just accelerate off the line or are you trying to use launch control?

if your not trying to use the launch control, try it.

m-mode on
dsc off
set it to the highest shift speed.
hold the gear lever forward
floor the gas pedal so you activate the kick down button ( the little rubber button behind the accelerator )
the revs should be bouncing around the 4k mark
release the gear lever and keep your foot planted.
the car will take off damm quick and should change gears itself even though its in manual mode ( not 100% sure if this happens in american cars, happens in ROW m5's)
keep your foot planted, because if you lift slightly it will deactivate the launch and ou will most probabaly bang the car on the limiter.

enjoy.

you may or may not be only able to do 1 launch every hour (not sure about american model specs)

edit: you can change the rev limit that the car sets when you are holding the gear lever forward by pushing the stalk on the side of the steering wheel (again not sure which side it would be on in american cars, its on the left side of the wheel here [right hand drive car])

I think the missing step is hold the gear shift lever forward and releasing at which ever RPM you are comfortable with.

I did not hold the shift lever... I'm assuming the (+) lever would be the right lever!

Where is this rubber button and what does it do generally? Are you saying it's behind the pedal? Does it doe anything other than cause the car to "Launch".

I can't wait to try this!

Seth.

Your M mode must be set wrong. go into your idrive screen.

press menu
select vehicle setting.
select M drive setting
make sure it's set on P500 Sport
Make sure it's on DSC off
make sure it's on S6
